Stripping the edges
« on: February 24, 2015, 06:38:38 pm »
Any tips for stripping old seal off a slate floor in a fancy kitchen which has lots of fiddley corners.

Would hand held angle grinder type machine with a black pad be of any use.

Any other tips welcome.

Thanks
Mark

Effective chemical is first step. We always start with neat Xtreme clean, then go on to solvents. It's surprising how many sealers Xtreme clean moves. Any solvents around edges and you are going to spoil paint.

As to tools, first for us is Cyclo twin head vehicle polisher, which can drive brushes or pads, with an orbital action, after that it's hand brushes & scouring pads.

Some mid-range honing powder always helps. At least it's slate - not too touchy.

I have used battery drill driver with a 4inch Velcro pad holder and use the centre of a 17 inch pad or I have a small nylon brush that fits in. Most of the time it's just hands and knees scrubbing which is easy enough with the right solution on the tiles.
