Got my 3a and 3b today. Was meant to be doing 1b but they put me on the wrong course. Getting 1b for free in 2 weeks. Very well run course down in Southampton. Enjoyed it all.

In seriousness thats a good deal. I looked at getting it done with a company, I can't remember their name now, but they wanted about £400 odd +VAT.

I will be doing mine later on this year as soon as Ive got my pressure washer kit all sorted out.

Had to pass a big gutter job on end of last year as no IPAF prob worth circa £800 - £1200 

Lots of industrial units near me.

I get a cherry picker job about every 5 years, which is how often you need to renew your license.

I done mine before christmas mate, good day out isnt it? I had to got back and do my 1b as well, if you do it within 28 days of your written test then you only need to do the practical bit of the test which is a bonus as its only an hour of a job rather than all day.

Have you looked at any more courses because i know you was talking about the pasma license or harness cert?

I think It depends on how many hours you can prove that you have used machines since you passed your test, you are supposed to record this in the logbook they give you when you passed. If you have used enough then you only need to do the written test.

Thought of doing the ladder inspection course. Ladders are meant to be checked/inspected 3 monthly with a ticket. If not I guess the insurance crowd would have a field day given an accident. You can self-certify once youve done the course. Same goes for harness. Theyre meant to be inspected and ticketed yearly.

Now Ive got IPAF I probably wont bother with PASMA. Doesnt really seem to be much point. Hiring a tower is cheaper than a picker I guess but your work rate will be slower. Thats why I think Id prefer to use a cherry picker which is categorised under 3b as opposed to 1b as using a 3b will be quicker generally to work with.

yeah i found that very strange. I worked in H&S for a bit and fully qualified and to be honest if i saw someone on site in one of those without a harness you would have been having a word. I guess most companies would still have folks wearing them.

I've done the ladder course both safe use and inspection felt it was a good move as employing.

They show you a great video on the ripple effect of someone falling off a ladder

When I got back and inspected all our ladders 2 sets of steps and  3 meter double were domestic use only
