Our local area has a website (streetlife) and I signed up a couple of months back for something to do. Not much going on just the usual chit chat and the obvious tradesmen using a 'plant' to get work.
Anyway, someone has put up a post asking for a reliable window cleaner and my name's started popping up. I've gone on there and put a post saying I can't take on anymore work.

Is it a bad business move to do this - what do you think?

Why would you say you can't take on anymore work? Unless you actually can't take on anymore work, but then it wouldn't be a dilemma.

Because I simply can't take on any more work. However I would take on an out of hours commercial job if there was enough money in it.

I just wondered if it's a bad move to broadcast you're full up?

If you are happy with your work and really cannot take any more on then no.
If you've underpriced work or low value jobs that could be dropped and replaced with better work then yes and now you will never know because you've put it out that you cannot take on any more work.

My other half is on one of those local facebook selling pages , she uses my profile , I have recently shutdown my website due to the fact that I get more work through the facebook bit , my site was never hit that much due to it being self built and no SEO work was never done .

The problem with the facebook bit is that I get lots of orrible jobs that nobody wants to do , end of tenancy junk and the like, but it does turn up some good bits too , so what I do is just take the bits I want.

Put your prices up an create a gap? Cant understand why anyone would want to stand still. Think earning more money rather than doing more work

not if you struggle to keep up to date with your round.taking more on just puts you further behind.

Don't refuse the work.  Pass on jobs you don't want to other window cleaners in your area, filter out any that sound good and keep them for yourself.

You get a source of very good jobs and a reputation as a good bloke from other windies.

I keep quoting ever more expensive then sell the lowest price work when I get too busy. Always moving forward.

Get the address & check out the house first to see if it's something you would want. To give yourself a get out of jail free card explain that you only have "certain gaps" & you'll "see" if you can fit it in or not. This puts you in the position of being able to choose to accept or decline without issue.
