clx v slx
« on: January 06, 2015, 09:15:39 pm »
Which would last longest, slx or clx, the same size over the same time frame. I have 2 clx,s  and I am going to buy 2 more soon, I can not see any reason apart from longevity to up grade to a slx ( I like the fact the clx has some whip to it). Also I have workers who wouldn't take as I would.

Slx every time - clx only ever lasted a year, good starter pole.

Everyone has an slx, the oldest is 4 years old and only ever needed a new no.1 section, there's more to it than whip, they are lighter and stronger this means we can clean quicker, more accurately with less fatigue day in day out.

Buy the slx , very good pole . Had mine awhile and upgraded the clamps and bought new sections over several years of the pole .

I had a CLX - but it's a verge compared to the slx .

I'd like the Xtreame , but not yet .

Slx slx and slx.
That extra whip makes a full working day harder on a clx. I used to use brodex and i can squeeze in 2-4 more jobs a day with a lighter pole without having any unwanted arm or shoulder strain. Over A week thats 10 jobs or £100! £400 extra a month or £4800 a year extra. Having the lightest and sturdiest pole's get more work done in a less stressful way.
For me its extreme poles next to hopefully squeeze another 5 jobs a week in.

This is the new clx part carbon, I think its great, the only time the small amount of bend is a problem is when cleaning skylights.  Have you used the new clx?

I had clx as my first pole brand new from gardiner last yr and it was great as a starter pole the difference in whip to the slx isn't that much slightly extended but fully extended its way different, I hated that whippyness all over the place but I can see how some prefer it but nice solid light slx with xtreme brush works better and faster for me with less aching shoulders over the day!

I have used both and they both last roughly the same infect I would say the CLX would last slightly longer.
The SLX is a better pole but then its more expensive so you would expect it to be.
Around the 18 to 22ft mark there isn't a massive difference in the whip and to be honest I could live with both,
above that you will start to notice the difference more.

on normal two storey work there is virtually no difference between the slx and the new
clx27 but on the horizontal I could tell the difference between the two poles if I had
con cleaning every day I would buy the slx but I don't so I am perfectly happy
with clx..on normal window cleaning I don't suffer any tiredness issues or arm pain.

WFP window cleaning physically speaking is without doubt the easiest job
I have ever had :)

I've posted a photo on here (somewhere) comparing the old and new clx-27 against the slx-22.
The new clx is FAR better than the old one and is good value and with the new clamps it's going to last longer if maintained.

i sold my CLX 22 a few years ago for £40 to a fellow windy.it was pretty worn after a year but he s still using it as his main pole 2 YEARS LATER!!so its 3 years old now.

its a good budget pole for beginners or window cleaners who dont have lots of awkward angle windows, high first floor windows or 3 storey/velux.

the SLX is defo more rigid though fully extended and feels a more quality pole.
price higher/work harder!

For the sake of a few extra quid I would have just tried the SLX. It's not worse than a CLX so you didn't have anything to loose apart from a few quid.

Hi Richard,

For every CLX that we sell over our trade counters or with a system, we probably sell 5 more SLX poles.

The CLX is a great starter pole, especially for staff who you know do not look after the equipment so well! The SLX however is the workhorse of the Gardiner range - lighter and less whip.

Time is money with cleaning. If you have a pole that costs more, but doesn't tire you out as quickly and is easier to use, then thats one we would pick everytime.

Hope that helps!

I went from an inferior pole to an slx and it was like comparing night and day.
I'm as tight as they come I diy everything because i know the expensive sytems are a con.
However when it comes to poles I've learnt you need to buy the best.
A lighter stiffer pole will help you work faster its a no brainer especially since an slx isnt that much more expensive and if looked after many on here have had them years.
Having said all that if i was full time I'd be using an extreme.

The comparison was between clx and slx, not brodex, my work is commercial so i am not using poles all day, the clx does not tier me out, to those who have not used the new one i think you would be surprised, although i have never used the slx, how light does a pole have to be, i don't think there is a bad pole on the market, they have all moved on so much in the last 12 years, its just which suits your needs.

Exactly Richard, for an 18ft pole which would be my main pole I prefer the CLX, you don't get the black hands for a start
and there is no noticeable difference in the whip especially when using an xtreme brush.

This post has been timed perfectly for me , I'm in the position today that I have to make some massive choices   , not just my choice of pole , more like  having to sell the lot and give it all up , I will be going into it further in another post that will explain more , and all of your thoughts will be very welcome.

But back to topic .....my choice  has always been the clx , I have always wanted the weight of the slx but to me I have been more interested in collapsed lengths of poles so I can use one for all windows without having to change poles all the time .

I currently use a clx 27 which I cut down , so it is now  very compact , from what I remember it is the same length as the slx 25 when opened up , and my clx is only 30grams more complete.
