Websites - do you have prices listed?
« on: December 29, 2014, 07:20:36 pm »
Hello all,

I just wanted to see what other people do or if anyone has any advice re pricing on your websites? Do you favour this or think its not a good practice?

I am in two minds and of late hearing more people say do not put prices on, have a "prices from"

Just after some opinions, as it seems some people think its good and others think its not so good.

Will I am hear, I am new to the window cleaning role and I have my pricing plan but I keep coming up against other window cleaners doing three and four bedroom houses for £6  - I kinda think how can you compete with this, I usually price a aveage 3 bedroom house at £10.

Does anyone else have people really under cutting an area? £6 for a house that has 9-11 windows to me is just silly.

Cheers :)

Depends how you look at it really.

I live in an area probably the same as you. Ladder guys doing houses every two weeks for £5 etc.

I'm more expensive, but the average three bed semi only takes me about 12 minutes all WFP. I charge about £7 and make sure I do a good job on all frames sills and doors etc. If you have compact work you can still make a good living from lower priced properties.

Or you can go the other way and price high but just spend longer building your round up.

On your site you should have prices from.....and that shows your minimum price. that will sort out a lot of dross and poor paying work for you already.

To the OP ... depends where you are in the journey of building your business .. if your just starting out then no don't put prices on website - go and quote every job in person after all you prob can spare the time needed to make a personal impression ..................... if you got a full round and only want top paying cream work then stick high prices on your website to appeal to the time poor cash rich type of customer  :) ... just my opinion

Eh?!
Once set up, a site will cost you less to run than the work it generates.

Crank calls...
'Hi, is that Mr Window Cleaner'
'Yes'
'Im calling from...'

Click-phone down.
Don't be rude. Just hang up.
A website isn't a necessity in this game, but it'll do you more favours than harm.

It's just the internet. Try not to worry.

unless you stand out from the crowd, websites are just internet wallpaper, you need something to attract the buyers in so a lot of work with continual maintenance is required

Exactly, it would be like a customer getting ten or more window cleaning leaflets through the door at the
same time.
They are going to look through them all and pick the one that looks the best or offers the best value for money.
But your still only going to have a one in ten chance of getting the custom.

Personally I would not put prices on my website; as you're just starting out you need to be FLEXIBLE with your prices to get some work in. Unless your prices are really cheap (and that's not the way to go either).

Don't worry about other window cleaners! Completely ignore them! Focus on what you do!

Get your prices about right, do a top job, be professional, polite and friendly.

Sell yourself (regular, reliable etc)...do a top job, glass, sills, frames, front door, back door every time. Finish the ground floor sills with a wipe over with a cloth.

Where in Essex are you? Pick some nice areas (not too expensive, not too cheap) and go knocking on doors and dropping leaflets.

"Thank you for calling: if you have a 1st floor flat, mid terraced house, lots of dogs, no parking, no side access, or no sense of humour, please press hold!
For all other enquiries, please press1"
