Is it only BT you can go to, to buy a telphone number outside your own std code area to use on permanent call divert to your own phone. So it looks as if you are from an area that your not in. My YP rep came last week and told me to buy telephone numbers from my neighbouring std code areas. He said try companies other than BT. Is he talking out of his rear end? Or not?

dont know about neighbouring STD codes, a non geographic 0870 nimber works ok for me...callers are charged at national call rate, and calls diverted to whatever number you want...number is free, and available from global telecom....no cost to you whatsoever.

im not sure i would use 0870 as they although can be charged national call rate, they can also be for profit like 090 but not to the same extent,

the goverment departments like DVLC had to drop 0870 for 0845, because they were critisied for making profit on callers on 0870,

i wont phone them, not sure the publics to savy on it anyway.
ie. your charged for the call plus a bit on top for them

Get a Tesco Broadband Phone! You can choose any area dialling code you want when you sign up.

All you can have is voicemail, no call divert, but it gives you a local presence.

must be just you then mate...I have had no problems with people calling it over the years...the profit accrued in the past 2 years has been around £4....so unless people up your way are really tight, then I wouldnt want them as customers, if thats the case.
The cost to the caller, is cheaper than them making a 2 minute call from a payphone, and I get no costs whatsoever...why get a bill for other people to call you?   Bad business sense.
