whats best for cleaning glass after a render clean and seal??
« on: December 23, 2014, 05:57:27 pm »
doing a big job on a school in Crawly where all the render has been cleaned and a seal coating has been added which has covered all the glass in what look like calcium deposits, i was asked to reach and wash it which i did but no matter how hard we scrubbed with the brush and on full flow they wouldn't come up good, we ended up trading all the lower glass which with some elbow grease came up good, what is out there that i can apply to the top windows that will help remove the marks and specs from the render work thats been done??

I've had this on a couple of occasions, it's a nightmare! You would think that they would cover the glass as the sealer is usually applied via a spray so it's pretty obvious what's gonna happen!

Fortunately for me both instances were small scale & I ended up soaping the glass up & scraping it off!!

yes thats what i said to them today why not cover the glass before hand. its a right headache this job. the glass is covered in the stuff. do you think limescale remover could work?? i cant think of anything else that would do the trick.

It might do Mick, worth a try. These windows I had to do were brand new too, just installed before the numpties sprayed this stuff all over the place!! I treat it as a builders clean & had to do it by hand- charging accordingly. The longer it's left on the worse it is to get off. The first time I came across this, the stuff had been on longer & was even harder to remove!! Get in quick!!

same as this school, all new glass. im on a good day rate so i wont come up short but it is as you say more a builders clean instead of a simple reach and wash clean that i was told it is. i managed to squeeze another day's dough on the job as will defo be taking longer than planned. fingers crossed the limescale remover does the trick, if not then a lot of trading will have to be done which im not looking forward too.

Don't laugh here... but take along a can of furniture polish- preferably a multi-surface one like Mr. Sheen. I've had some amazing results in the past with this stuff. Didn't have any to hand in my two cases though. I once did a whole builders clean with just a can of this & some cloths!! I kid you not. ;)

Make sure it's the kind in an aerosol form like traditional furniture polish that comes out almost like a creamy solution- not the translucent trigger spray bottle stuff. ;)

If it's pva bond then I think it's a scraper job. Difficault choice to make as anything that's going to remove this stuff can be quite toxic.

Acetone may also work well, trial and error really

Don't you just love these one off jobs  ;)

It does & nobody was more surprised by this than me I can assure you. I came across this by accident via another product which was an actual glass cleaner & an amazing one at that. I couldn't help but think that this other product was so much like furniture polish- smell, look, consistency of liquid etc that curiosity got the better of me. Couldn't get my hands on this amazing product as the manufacturer had ceased to exist so I went through a few of the "similar" products & settled on a multi-surface polish/cleaner which was either Mr. Muscle or Mr. Sheen & the results were just as good. So easy to use it was literally unbelievable! If anyone was to tell me this & I hadn't actually experienced it myself I also wouldn't believe them! ;D
