Gardiner now supplying Hannay motorised reels
« on: December 18, 2014, 10:49:05 am »
Hi All and Alex

I've just noticed that Gardiners are now supplying Hannay reels, I have 2 of these and they have been rock solid for 8 years, and anyone else that uses them would probably testify.  I was wondering if anyone has tried the motorised version and if so how fast is it?  Does anyone have a video of it in operation?

Going on a similar motor and reel. They seem to all top out at about 650rpm with no hose.

Needless to say that would be uncontrollerable.

Just seen a video of my electric reel in development and I was disappointed with speed until I was told about the Max RPM

These electric reels will catch on. Where's it at tho is the controller that controls them. I am hoping the one I have had made will be sweet as. I am told the controller will be sold at a later date as well :D

i have the power up reel which i have to alter firstly the crank hande is just a standard one which comes with the reel which you have to bend for it to work not good.and the other is the fuse and fuse older.the fuse is a tiny glass fuse at 15 amp, i blew 15 amp fuse as i snaged hose first time out  :P i could not find any ware that sold them so i changed fuse older to the spade type fuse much more easy to get.but as for rpm aint had any thing to compare.all i know for sure my arms dont ache any more from reeling in all the time.

So is the 650rmp the motor speed or is it the drum speed, as I believe the Hannay motor drives a gear.

Dave f I read your post on the reel, sounded like a nightmare day.  How do you find the battery copes with the extra load?

650RPM is the drum speed on a cox reel. No hose.

Hi Simon

Here is a video link of a slightly larger size Hannay Power reel in operation - http://youtu.be/aSQQHzZxe6A

The Hannay reels come with a robust circuit breaker and a 'momentary' push button actuator for safety - this can be mounted wherever required to operate the reel from.

I use hannay reels and find them the most easy to reel in without a moterised wheel in place as it is. Much easier than the cheaper ones that dont bolt in.

Thanks Alex, I've been looking for that kind of video for ages as I've not actually seen the Hannay motorised reel in operation.  Do you know if that was going full speed?  It seemed just a little slow.  By any chance are you selling the swivel joint seal kits for Hannay as well?

That was full speed although being a larger reel it would be slightly slower than the smaller reels we have stocked.

We do not have the swivel joint seal in stock at the moment - drop me an email and we can discuss getting it in stock.
