I got some 25 litre used barrels from a car wash, i rinsed them once but they still  stink of the flammable liquid or glass they had in them before in the car wash.   I had pure water put in, will they be ok to use for cleaning?   Also, a TDS meter won't register these chemicals will it?   It just measures the water itself, right?   Also where can i buy some  barrels, went to B and Q but they didnt have them!

Rinse them until the pure water reads 000 on a TDS

jus keep rinsing then fill barrel with purified water if it reads 000ppm
its fine if it doesn't just repeat process again

Maybe you can. But if you rinse them adequately the chemical that doesnt dissolve will be flushed out. It's not rocket science.

No need to bin them.....OR buy new ones  .

The only barrels I DON'T use from the local car wash place, are the one which contained the tyre/rubber cleaner etc.

The ones which held car shampoo/screen wash/APC/TFR etc just need to be rinsed-out a few times....No need to waste pure water on the repeated rinsing out, just use plain tap water and fill half full and give them a good shake and repeat till your happy they're clean.

So NO, it won't bugger your pump

The barrels had a glass cleaner in them.  It really stinks.
