I'm looking for some advice,
I recently sealed a slate floor with Ilthofin slate floor sealer and the guy I had working with me splashed a little of the sealer onto the customers oak doors, only a few splashes but it has left black marks and now I need to clean them off.

Any advice on the best way to get the marks off without stripping the whole door, I have never sealed a door and don't plan on starting either.

Take the doors off, rub them down and re oil them

Are the doors oiled or varnished?

If they are oiled do as Kevin says using some 0000 steel wool and some oil.

If they are lacquered do the same but with shellac.

There is also a spray lacquer by Konig that is really handy for feathering in this type of thin g on lacquered surfaces.

If you dont want to have a go get a french polisher. These guys can work wonders.

Good point Jamie I had assumed they were oiled as would have thought it would have wiped straight off varnish.

Realise it is late now but this is exactly the scenario that happens when you fail to mask effectively!

You're very welcome!  If you were more local I would have got my Wood Specialist to sort it for you but I ain't sending him to Carmarthenshire sorry
