Van costs. OUCH !!
« on: October 21, 2014, 03:42:23 pm »
Just got off the motorway this afternoon, and heard a clatter front right. No power steering and charge light comes on. Limp into the local Renault workshop and they stick it up on the ramp. Dunno in English but I think it's the cam shaft pully?? has fallen apart and bust the fan belt that runs everything. Anyway, about 500 quid for parts and labour.  :(

There goes the money I stashed under the mattress last month  >:( Going for a sulk in my shed for a bit.

Don't pistons and valves smash together when cambelts go out of time?

Renault is French !!! I have a traffic good van. The wiring loom packed in had to wait nearly a week for the Renault garage to get the part in from France. That's why I got a ford as the parts are there on the day if need be !!!

Its the outside pulley that drives the alternator and power steering pump. In the old days we called it the fan belt.

The Citroen ones used to give us advance warning by rattling around and making a din.

Hope you're back on the road soon Cozy.

Mine's just failed its DOE (Irish MOT for commercials) test on front suspension imbalance, N/S headlamp beam out and O/S outer driveshaft boot split. Not bad at all for a '99 Fiesta van I reckon.

Repairs were done today, and going back for retest next week.

Regards,
John

The parts were ordered as I sat there, and it's ready tomorrow afternoon. My brother drives an AUDI A8 as he's a private hire driver. When he needs spare parts, he sometimes gets 'em faster by me ordering them here, and collecting them in the town I live in, then sending UPS !!  ??? Reckoned it was a week faster that way.
Don't understand it, but the waiting times in UK seem a bit extreme.

Spruce, Father-in-law reckons the job is over 3 hours, as they have to drop half the gear around it out. I suppose most of the price is labour?

If Cozy writes the following sentence it means he's  coming out of the closet and acknowledging his gaydom to all on CIU.

Why are you going to do that Matt, I'm the one who's van is knackered, no need to send any money    ??? Thanks for the offer though.
