Mopping & vinyl flooring
« on: April 11, 2006, 10:20:18 am »

Got a call last week from somebody who is not happy with the quality of cleaning being provided by the current supplier.

The site is a small private swimming pool and the problem is the current contractor is just mopping the vinyl floor in the changing rooms and along a passageway by the side of the pool - just doesn't look very clean and white spots of what are presumed to be calcium deposits are building up.

They seem to think a scrubber dryer is the answer but I don't know of any machine small & flexible enough to cope with such a confined space as exists in the changing rooms which are partitioned in to 10 or 12 tiny cubicles.

Any suggestions ? The size of the job wouldn't really justify significant expenditure on machinery unless perhaps they were willing to buy it.

You could try a rotary machine and a wet vac, the dragonfly is good for small spaces.  Numatic do do small scrubber dryers but like you I doubt they will be small enough or flexible enough for this kind of space.

As it is only a small area a good flat mopping system with a microfibre head should be sufficient to keep the area clean on a maintenance basis. It may be that the current cleaner is using the wrong type of chemicals and not rinsing the floor properly, which in turn attracts the dirt. If there is scale build up on the floor it will need the appropriate type chemical to disolve it, followed by a rinse. This could be done using a mop and wet & dry vac . You will need to be carefull that the chemicals do not enter the pool itself as it could affect the ph level of the pool. When you say vinyl I presume it is a safety floor which can be quite difficult to clean without using some sort of scrubber but not impossible.

The Nilfisk 340 is a good s/d for tight spots, but loads of other makes would do. Maybe a 6 inch rotary and a good mopping system would do the trick.
Not sure I fancy 240v around a swimming pool!
