Yep this happened to me too, employee dislocated his shoulder playing football. If your employee has been off work since July how has it taken 11 weeks to realise it is you that has to pay the sick pay?  Think it was £82.50 per week I had to pay, so if you are the same it will be £825 you have to pay

I no longer employ but was under illusion any sick pay you payout is offset against the PAYE you collect for the government ......... also not sure if true but you can just tell them to go to DSS to claim their sick pay ??

That's all changed mate, down to us little guys to pay and be out of pocket, same when we have to start paying into their pension pots

Not according to my accontant. The rules changed in April 2014.
But how can it be fair if someone gets hurt laying sport and we have to pay??

Did he tell you in time?

"The employee should tell you they’re sick within your own time limit (or 7 days if you don’t have one). You don’t have to pay Statutory Sick Pay if they don’t meet these time limits. "

Can someone clarify for me.........if you have an employee on a short hours contract and their pay is below the £108 (threshold), then sick pay is not payable by the employer?

If working as a busy fool on ok-ish average prices and contemplating whether to employ someone either pick your best priced work, sell the rest and work solo: or take the plunge and a chance on employing a healthy employee who isn't a lazy git beating the benefit system.

This is a law they changed in 2014 to make employees pay! they slipped it quite quietly!!
