Fitting reels to the roof ?
« on: September 27, 2014, 09:59:59 pm »
I am thinking of buying a couple of these -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151400156487?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I want to fit them to the roof at the back of the van,  by the rear doors, does anyone else have this setup, and does it work well reeling out ?

Any comments much appreciated  ;D

Have a look on Grippatanks website in the photo gallery. There is a picture of a frame that mounts the reels high off the van floor.

Edit - doesn't seem to be there any more.

I will also do a search for an electric hose reel mounted into the roof line that was on here a number of years ago. I'm looking to do something similar but I would rather look at the Proloc heavy duty reels that Windows Warehouse sell. Slightly more expensive but look like 'the real deal' IMHO.

That looks good, but it would take up too much space for me, I want to hang the reels from the roof so I have more floor space for my other kit  ;D

Make the shelf higher then   ;)  ;D,

Unless your going for motorised reels.....
I think reels which are too high, have an awkward reeling-in action.

Having reels at just above your own waist height makes for an easier/smoother action.

Agree with the above, however I have seen them roof mounted on astravans and are a good height to wind in from

I tried to find the video of Clive McDonald's roof mounted reels driven by a battery drill. He was also known as Slumpbuster. Business Village Gleam. Haven't been able to find a reference to it though.
