hi all,

               i been thinking of setting up a website, but not sure if its worth it,
 i would be gratfull to know those who do have a website if its a good source of work, how many calls come in a week?

I have not got one as yet due to not having the time to sit down to put one together. I think that they are a good idea because you can put the basic info on your leaflets, but include your web address in big letters for them to browse at your leasure. As to whether a single page over an all singing and dancing one with links is best, is something for you to decide.

Somebody told me once, a customer of mine whos a bailiff, that his relative designs them, but can fix it so they are always on top of the pile when a search engine is used. I.E carpets cleaners in Bristol, your's would be the first one. Whether this is true or not, i can't really say.

Another thing is as well, you can include lots of pictures on a website, but on an A5 leaflet you are limited. If like me, you only ever target the new estates, where on many occasions the young professionals live, so more than likely they would be frequent pc users.

Domain name should be the one that could be simple to remember, sometimes for potential customer it is easier to keep in mind the web name than a phone number.

You can use templates provided by hosting companies.  The templates are free and very easy to use, just type in your text and insert photos/pictures.  I host with fasthosts.co.uk , but would advice you to take a look at 1and1.co.uk

does enough work come in from it to be worth doing?

We got email enquiries from my website, our new customers tell us that they viewed our website before contacting us, we got a local job from a company which is located couple of hundreds miles from us (yell.com), majority of one-off jobs come from yell.com as well. 

I think website is another type of brochure, which is available to view 24/7.  You can say as much or as little as you like over there, you can change the text/design etc at any time.  My personal view that these days website is a must for every business regardless its size.

I use 1&1 about £30 per year inc a good web page maker. I have a simple site which I am in the process of revamping. Even so I get one or two a month from it.

Having a website definately pays off.  There is a forum member who is selling websites (+ support + updates) for about £150.  He is a nice guy and helped us a lot in setting up our site and the off the shelf package he is selling is well worth the money.  He is a carpet cleaner so has a great understanding of our business and what the customer wants from a website. 

I think he even does some SEO on the sites bought from him.
