Evolution 1000. Anyone using one?
« on: September 19, 2014, 09:26:42 am »
I'm looking to buy a new Ro machine and currently use a Merlin but noticed that these were replaced by the Evolution in 2011! I've looked at the Gardiners version but not sure how much replacement membranes are compared with Evo etc!

I guess the best person to answer this is Alex.

When they first came out I understood that it was the same r/o but packaged differently. There was talk that the membranes would be replaced with more efficient ones but there was going to be a price penalty. I'm not sure that that actually happened, especially considering the price Alex has replacement membranes for.

Doesn't seem like a popular choice then so what is?

The Evolution 1000 is a re-badged Pentair PRF-RO. The Pentair PRF-RO is the newer version of the old Merlin systems.

These offer a very good priced alternative to a 4040/4021 system for those that do not need more than 2,500 litres per day. It works well on pressure down to 45psi.

They are a really easy to set-up and use option and are proving very popular since we have introduced them.

As to Spruce's question I believe that the membranes are the same, but the pre-filter is improved over the original Merlin pre-filter and now features Fibredyne technology which gives twice the pre-filter life compared to the Merlins.

Hi Alex

Does this mean that they still have a high waste to pure ratio. The only 3 Merlins that I have had experience with belonging to nearby fellow window cleaners all have had very poor membrane efficiency - all around 90%, way down on the 97 - 99% of the 4021 and 4040 membranes.
