got work back decisions to be made
« on: September 08, 2014, 10:57:36 pm »
well got my stuff back today from lad whose been keeping it going, bit disappointed as i was under impression i had 792 customers, having got laptop back ive now realised that there isnt there in only 490 ish whats happened is on window cleaner pro hes been going off all rounds all customers, however this has taken in to consideration adhoc jobs one offs, rounds i let go, all the groupon customers i had so having stripped it all back im now only at 490 ish with approx a £1000-1100 a week of work,

decision one is use the employee ive taken on to clean and i build rounds up a bit

decision two change to monthly instead of six weekly, reason for this builds up turnover straight away without the need to canvass and leaflet drop, saves increasing prices in january and it also would work better with go cardless i think

people opinions would be nice cheers

£1000 pw sounds like a good number to jump straight in and get earning, alone.

No offence mate but you seem to be looking for an excuse to NOT get out there on the brush, just do it.

get smashing it richy lad

£200 a day , you ll be fine , keep it simple

When thats ticking over nicely worry about the next step, you might find you spend less time thinking about the job if you just get out and get it cleaned

I find im least productive when im sat around thinking about it , just do it :)

Can't see you'd be popular with your customers going from six weekly to four weekly? Actually, can't see you being popular anyway.

I wouldn't employ either if anything scale down for a while and keep things simple. You might have had a big business but it's worthless if your earnings are poor. Keep your head down, plod along and take 40k+ per year. What's wrong with that?

i think richy likes the idea of the money but not the physical graft to actually do it himself week in/week out, month in/month out, year in/year out.personally i love working on my own most of the time but im not so sure about richy.

id be happy to smash your workload richy.6 or 7 hours "on the glass" 5 days a week.my round is similar in earnings per week for a one man band.im very happy with it.although i usually have a week off or at least 3-4 days off at the end of the month before next months onslaught.
price higher/work harder!

;D ;D ;D

if i was flat out 5 days a week EVERY WEEK mick this window cleaning lark would really grind me down!the few days off(or week)at the end of the month helps keep me fresh and motivated!i could take on more work and canvass hard and fill up another weeks work but i reckon it would make me miserable and id have to change my name to DAVE WILLIS!! ;) ;D ;D

Maybe more time working, less time asking questions that you already know the answers to perhaps?

You forgot option 3..which would be get off your fat lazy arse instead of walking around with your head up it and go and earn an honest days graft instead.

ive taken the lad on as an employee and found out later that the business aint quite where it should have been, i know everyone thinks im lazy and dont want to work but i cant wait to get out working to be honest, ive been out today handing out printed newsletter with new bank details and payment options etc with coupons with special offers for the customers etc on handed out 50, spoke with appox 20 and got 3 extra adhoc jobs 2 connys and a large fascia job,

ive offered the lad a job and i wont go back on my word yes i know its only 494 at minute but i know it will soon build up to 6-650, i must admit im not one for working on my own i do like someone there to support me and work alongside, moneys not my main motivation im happy taking a good wage i enjoy the building side of it too tho and im only wanting to get bk up to approx the vat threshold so another 25grand a year or so of business

a lot of the customers are very happy im back as the work hasnt been up to standard etc so

Why do exactly the same as you did before?
You had a round close to the vat threshold you had employees, couldn't afford to take a wage half the time and had to resort to crime. Why don't you ever listen?  ::)roll

Your £1000 a week potential has already been knocked back by what? £300 a week by employing. You've got the simplest business already set up for you with excellent earning potential, no need to canvass, no need for crappy Groupon deals no marketting costs, no van signage needed and yet...........  ::)roll

How much were you paying yourself as a wage before your 'holiday' by the way?

How you can make an error of 300 missing customers a month is beyond me - what's that 20k+ of work?

from what i can see here, richy was led to believe he had 700 + customers coming back to him!!, it turned out it was 490, he had taken on a guy...for the 790, seems fair to me, he is then left with the 490 but is keeping the guy on, seems fair and noble to me but i would say that could be a good idea as all the work, potentially can be done lets say in three days ( two of them) instead of 5 (on his own) this will allow him the time to build it back up to say 800.
Hopefully he has learnt his lesson in relation to employing mates who screwed him over and employ in a correct manner and get good people in and also grow more slowly and in a controlled manner.
