Im going to place an order for the CLX 18 with Gardiners. There is no difference at all in the clx 18 & slx 18 apart from a measly 30 grams in weight! The bumper that you put on the Gardiners brush is 35 grams for pitys sake, so the weight difference is nothing. The Diameter of pole, open & closed lengths are exactly the same so its hard to justify £73 more just for a tiny 30 grams of weight!

For a while I thought the same as you, but then I bought an slx.

It's the rigidity that is the key. It makes you much more accurate and faster as your not having to deal with the flex.

As above, at low heights it would make no difference at all

25ft and above and using horizontal I can understand the advantage
of a slx

I have an slx 25 , been using the slx poles for a few years now but was wanting to find out opinions between these two particular sizes of pole. I ordered a clx tonight but have now emailed Gardiners to cancel my order so I can order the slx again! I was having a senior moment!

Really don't know how some of you guys can say there's no difference......

Even on the smallest of two story you move the pole fast and the whip in it means after you've stopped moving the pole carries on, making it less accurate.

Then as you push down to remove bird muck or pollen spots the pressure you apply gets transferred to flex in the Pole rather than pressure on the glass.

You May think the clx is fine, but saying there is no difference between the two is just wrong.

is at 18ft you wont notice it enough to justify the extra price.
Even an xtel fiberglass wont have a lot of whip at that height they are just a heavy brute.

Yes, apart from Jonny 87, Pure H2O and 8weekly, all of whom are very specific in saying that the SLX-18 is a better bet because it's more rigid.  If you ignore their posts then, yes, "what the people who have used both are saying is at 18ft you wont notice it enough to justify the extra price."  

So, that's three responders out of five saying the SLX is worth the extra.  But if you ignore them then you're right, everyone thinks it's not worth it.  Apart from the majority who think it is.  But ignore them.

The CLX is a good pole but the SLX is superior - you will know if you use one - even at 18ft.

No one's mentioned the Black Hand Syndrome you get from using the SLX range and the carbon dust.
At that height I would much prefer the CLX they open and close with less resistance too.

Vin, I honestly don't care if a person wants to buy an xtreme for 18ft work, what type of pole a person prefers to use is
up to them.
I wasn't trying to state that more people agreed with me on rigidity, that was just bad wording on my part.
What I'm saying is the difference in the rigidity of a CLX18 and a SLX18 is barely noticeable and wont effect your output.
As J.D also stated before doing his u turn, the weight difference is also very little at this height.

I use a clx18 for prob 95% of my work, also have an slx 25, and find the clx perfectly suitable for the height it can reach. That said, when it needs replacing i will get an slx18 as the rigidity is a bonus for-let's face it-not a lot more money

Similar to myself , I have a clx18 and a slx18 for 95% of my work and an SLX25 plus an extra section for any other jobs that I cant reach.
I actually use the clx more because it has the old clamps, I just don't like the new smart clamps compared to the old
type. My clx is over 4 years old and the clamps still work like new.
Its lucky I'm not hard on poles as I honestly don't know if I would want another Gardiner pole because the clamps and there doesn't
seem to be any decent competition out there.

Think I will dig out the old SLX this weekend and upgrade the clamps I've had for several months.
I've got the new CLX27, CLX22 and the old CLX27 and the old SLX22 with an extension.
Thinking of a Chris Dawber / Polz n Bladz type test in the garden (without the video)
I need to see this for myself and feel the difference. And hopefully I have justified buying the new CLX27.
