Needing to get a decent durable lightweight waterproof jacket, also one that is breathable as I tend to sweat more than Jimmy Saville in Toys R Us!    Even on a less warm day.
Not hugely bothered about the price more need something that is going to last. What's good out there?

Gortex is still the best. Make sure its not just a waterproof coating as this wil wash out in time.

I stick rigidly to Berghaus waterproofs. They never let me down and a good Goretex breathable berghaus jacket & trousers do exactly as it says on the tin.

try Craft.  they make cycling jackets which i have found are perfect for window cleaning.  extra long arms which helps with all the reaching and stretching we do.  And a low front, long bottom which makes it perfect for when you wear a belt and pouch etc.  very cheap and lasted 4 years so far

Today I just bought for myself a North Face lightweight goretex jacket and Berghaus waterproof over trousers. Not cheap but the last few years I have got soaking wet in the winter.

I actually want it to rain now so I can get my monies worth but the sunshine is out dammit!

use nikwax to reproof them n don't  have water too hot as it ruins taped seals on goretex.

Deerhunter Gotland trousers , First class trousers i mostly wear  them walking the dog but can cover 4-5 miles no sweating very thin and lightweight , breathable and stretchy fabric .

IMO none of them last.ive had bergaus goretex,north face goretex/hyvent jackets etc.they last about 18 months then i have to chuck them away cos they tear and rip around the pockets/sleeves.i do work in most wet weather though and wear them every day in winter/quite a few days in summer.they do keep you pretty dry compared to cheaper jackets.

im thinking of buying the mountain/hiking jackets next but i cant see them lasting either.RAB or something similar.

Dazmond the frequency we would wear wet weather gear in our jobs means 18 months might be the max , People who go hiking etc may not wear their as much as we do day in day out 7-8 hrs a day . Mike

I seem to replace jackets every year but last year, in all the rain last year I had 2 and still got wet. Just bought a RAB not cheap but they say to wash regular as it helps with waterproofing, also use waterproofing in the washing machine every 8 months or so.

Damn I nearly bought a RAB the other day, settled on a North Face, should be good though.

I have realised though that anyone who works for Cotswold Outdoor doesn't know what they're talking about so best to do your own research first!

When you wash it don't use standard soap powder. This will clog the pores of the Goretex

Get tech wash - to wash it and then reproof it. Use Grangers or Nikwax

Goretex clogs up with sweat etc and when it is 'wetting out' getting wet from the inside it can be down to it not being cleaned enough but also we live in a damp environment and often the outside humidity does not help the body heat trying to get through the fabric.

I've walked in all sorts of different membrane jackets.

Event in my opinion is the best membrane you can buy but walking in one and working in one are two different things, for a work jacket it has to have a little bit more steel about it.
