Evening chaps.  Any advice on how to clean the moss off this awning?  Its a canvas type waterproof cover over a cafe.  Any advice greatly welcomed

Walk away is my advice.

Unless it's plastic coated you won't get it clean with WFP and chems.

Try the general cleaning section or carpet cleaners they may have something like steam cleaning fabric that would work

washing machine. tell them not much chance of removing all of that. It will be ground into the fabric big time. cleaning that with cold water will be a struggle i reckon

Challenge?

What, like using your head to demolish a block of flats ??

Yes these awnings can be awkward to clean, we have tackled them using two builders trestles with planks across them when allowed, we used damp magic eraser pads impregnated with a safe to use degreaser and scrubbed off the ingrained soils, then just rinsed off with microfibers and water, comes up a treat but its slow work just have to charge accordingly for all the hassle.

A frame ladder, bucket of hot soapy water and an abrasive sponge or scrubbing brush, wfp will be useless on it apart from maybe to rinse.

most on here are not up for a challenge because they are too lazy or too busy knocking out 4 houses an hour at £20 a pop.

Only 4 😱

Must be a quiet day then.... 😝

Seriously, I doubt they would be willing to pay for the time it would take to do a decent job.

Find out how much a new fabric is.
From that you'll be able to see if the price you want is financially viable for the customer.
I can't see a bit of tent fabric being that expensive...

If its fabric (which i think it is) then you could spray it with algoclear and the return after a couple days and scrub it off with wfp

Hi Guys, i would be 95% certain its a heavy duty PVC awning as they are the most popular built around an aluminum frame, if they are heavily soiled they have to be cleaned manually, we have found the most effective way is to use magic eraser pads again impregnated with a safe solution and agitation to achieve best results, not trying to be smart in recommending not to use high alkaline chemicals on these PVC surfaces as they can and will leave etch marks if your not extremely careful, trust me on this one as we have cleaned many of them over the years, just explain to the customer the extra cost you need to charge for deep cleaning to bring it back to optimal results, and if they agree to have it cleaned on a regular basis it can be very cost effective as you can use a much quicker method, we also promote a Nano based protector which can be applied after they have been cleaned and dried, once this coating has been applied it makes future cleaning so quick and easy.

wow, thanks very much for the replies.  very informative.  i went today and did a test patch just with hot soapy water.  They are well aware it won't be brand new, they just want the algae removed.  will keep you updated
