« on: August 24, 2014, 05:59:21 pm »
Hi
I have an upright 500 tank, where is the best position to fit a element and if its near the bottom, is there a way to fit the securing ring?
Any pics would be good
Thanks

I have the same tank. Fit it as far down as your arms will reach, if you have really short arms get a mate who is 6'+ to come round and put it in place with you  ;D
You will need a metal wrench/spanner (they sell them in B&Q) for immersion element so as to tighten up lock ring.

Nope, mine's been fine for three winters now.  Get a plug timer too.  I give mine about four hours before I start work.  It turns the tank into a mini-radiator so everything else (pumps/brushes/hoses) don't freeze either.

Hi Tony, I fitted the 11" immersion, but if I was to fit another I would try the longer one. Saying that, it works well enough, brilliant in the winter months. Same as Tosh really. Even had it on during the summer months coz I think snail trails, bird cack and fly marks come off better with water being warmer, just put it on for 2hrs instead of the 4hrs for winter months.

Don't be a chicken.
If it gets goosed, so be it.
Just duck tape over the hole.

I did have from when I did the job, but got rid  :o
I don't suppose the fitted pics would be any good to you as it would only be of an element on left side of tank (looking in from back doors) as far down as my little arms would reach, with cable coming out of it! Sorry JD

hi thinking of using an immersion heater element aswell when it gets colder! I read on another thread about extension leads getting hot with the danger of overheating

i have two upright tanks a 175 and a 250, so am i looking at two extension leads? both run off of seperate mains

That sounds like it would be a big draw on your electrics; I'm not sure I'd run two at the same time.  I'd check it out with a qualified spark, or get a 400 litre tank instead.
