stained poly con roof
« on: August 07, 2014, 09:14:01 am »
Hi  everyone.
Did a conny roof yesterday it was the white polycarbonate type.

Custie was pleased but there were a couple of stains that wouldn't come off.

Stains run vertically beside the white upvc roof struts and were a faint lime colour.

When I touched the roof it didn't feel like it was on the inside.

Do the polycarbonate roofs blow and get discolouration inside?
Or am I being silly  ;D

Used virosol and tried Fenwicks caravan cleaner on stains.

Must add customer said conservatory was 10 years old and roof had never been
Cleaned!
But to be fair not bad just algae and a bit of moss.

Had to clean alot of it from custie bedroom and bathroom window
Something I didn't tske into consideration :(

Oh well more lessons learned!
Lee.

Meant to say stains on roof didn't feel like they were on the outside of
The roof when I touched them.

Yes, they can stain between the sheets.
Usually there will be a path for the mark to travel though.
The ends if polycarbonate are open until they get the caps put over them.
The caps could have slipped off...?
Usually-if you can't touch it outside, and you can't touch it inside it'll be between the sheets. A bit like the misting on a blown double glazed window.
But usually it is triple polycarbonate so 2 extra surfaces for dirt to stick to.

Thanks Poleking.
Not inside roof either.
End caps were all on.
But custie did confess to roof leaking in heavy rain.

There were a couple of drips when I did it.
Wondering if not air tight then that could be why.

Pointed out to custie thete wss a crack in one of the small triangle panels
She wasn't happy think she thought it was me.
Can't win if I hadn't pointed it out she would have thouhgt it was me ;D

Said perhaps ground was moving that poo her up.
She also thought I'd washed the seal off from around hatch in roof.

Pointed out it was moss and dirt, compared it to hatch on otherside of con roof.
Glad she is not a regular but friend of custie ;D

Is customer not happy and asked you to get rid of the stains? If not, why are you bothered? I'm not being funny, just intrigued. I would just say "I did my best. You will have to get the specialist £500 people in for that level of work."

8 weekly.
Yep here what your saying.
Custie pointed stains out when I quoted.
After I been there near an hour pointed out wouldn't come off and was upto
Her if I carried on or got in the upvc restorers.

Just don't like it when stains don't come off.

Is that what someone would charge £500 to restore roof or all conservatory?

Clean clear thanks for the tip on moss/algae growing inside poly roof.

Thanks everyone.
