RO Recomendation?
« on: July 18, 2014, 08:08:59 am »
Hi All

I'm after a new RO. The Merlin I use has started eating Resin for breakfast lunch and dinner (plus a midnight snack).

I'm looking at the Gardiner EZ-Pure RO.

Any other recommendations?

Thanks
Andy  ;)

I use the ez pure. It works well for me, I replaced a Merlin with it. It's definitely better than a Merlin, easier to maintain etc. My tds is relatively low though.

What's wrong with just a standard RO?  I only ask so I can understand about such things.  My tap water is 220 (ish) and it produces plenty from 2 x 100 gal membranes.  Tds before DI is about 5.

What exactly is a "standard" ro? Ez-pure is just a 21-40, that's pretty standard is it not?

It's just a drainage tube with an ro membrane in isn't it? What does a standard one look like?

Small white ones.  Torpedo shaped.

You mean the 250gpd type. Three prefilters and two membranes on top?

Tosh is referring to the domestic RO filters, mostly used in homes for drinking water.

You can add extra membrane housings to these to increase the GPD.

They aren't as fast or efficient as the 4040 or 4021, but quite a few window cleaners use them, as do aquarium enthusiasts, and leave them on overnight to fill their tanks.

If you're looking for something more efficient than the Merlin, then I'd recommend a 4040 ro.

^^^^ Yes, thanks, that's the one.  I've two of 'em torpedo things on top of mine; it must produce at least 600 litres a day.  I just fill to a static tank and pump it out of that into my van with a submersible pump.

The same one has lasted me about 8 years now, though to be fair I have changed all the filter housings, the metal frame thing they're screwed on (it went all rusty) and replaced the torpedo things on top; along with all the filter hose and John Guest fittings.

But still, 8 years is pretty good value.

It's still the same RO/DI unit though!  ;D

An analogy could be made about you.  You were born and since then all of your atoms have been replaced with different atoms (that used to belong to other stuff); yet you are still you.  Your mum might get your baby photos out and say "This is Don Kee when he was 18 months old!", but was it really you if you've got a whole bunch of different atoms to when you were that age?

So my RO/DI is still the same one I got 8 years ago.  Isn't it?
