Your van mpg

Not strictly a cleaning question, but what are you guys getting out of your vans?

Ive recently bought a Vivaro, had it about a week now. Brimmed the tank on first day with £97 of diesel then filled it back up this morning with £28.  Worked out mpg and it came back at 29 mpg. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. £28 to do 140 miles.

That was about 80 miles of motorway and the rest town driving. Nothing heavy footed and cruising at 60 on the motorway.

Sounds like me driving. 100 miles to £20 sounds about right to me.

22 mpg??
what years your van carl?
Have you thought about getting it chipped?
Also if its 5 years or older check your oil cooler thermostat as they tend to perish and allow cool water constatntly to the oil, which makes them run at about 20 degrees lower than optimum temperature, makes them drink fuel for fun  ;D

Its a 57 plate and only had 42k on the clock - it had a genuine ford engine @ 85k, it does a few more if I don't go near a motorway. I was in a spot when I bought it and could only get a 5 speed but the 115hp 6 speeds are way better on fuel. I did consider getting a new one but I got a new rescue Dag and she's eat both seats, carpet, arch cover, seat belt and a door card so I will wait a while. I drive a lot of miles and with 400 ltrs of water on I don't expect good mileage. The jetter weighs 1.2 tonnes with out water let alone all the other gear

Sounds like 30 is the going rate.

The spec says it should do 32 on an urban run, 41 on extra urban and average around 35/36.

Gutted.  If I could get 35-38 I would be well happy

32-35 on a vivaro. It won't help filling it right to the top tho! Shed excess weight and I only ever put 25-30 litres a time in.
