Since I started CC, (I seem to have no end to throat and larynx infections, and lose my voice a lot...dont know if this is just a coincidence, but wondered if anyone else has suffered from this problem..and does anyone wear a mask?

Are you talking too much to the customer when you should be working

I get this sometimes. It's probably the water vapour rising into the air around you with the dirt or from the waste tank. If i have had a long day with a few jobs, i also go down hill in the night time, but am usually better the next day.

Take some fishermans friends with you. If they are good enough for Icelandic fishermen, they must be good enough for you. You have been told, take it onboard if you wish

Just had sinus surgery. My consultant says masks are only effective for the first few minutes.
Occupational hazzard I guess.

I know what you mean about talking too much to customers...some of them just wont shut it...as for masks only working for a few minutes   surely this cant be the case.

i been getting no end of coughs and colds this past year or so, i put it down to having a 3 year old though who picks up every thing and gives it to us, never thought  but i guess it could be the carpet cleaning

I used to jet wash the waste tank on my truckmount every friday and then had throat infections,colds and general nasties (rusty water)most weekends. Till the good lady wife, she is a Dr. caught me doing it and comented on the smell being the same as the sewage farm and you would'nt swim it that would you!


So I switched to sluiceing it down with a hose and bleaching the tank friday night to monday morning and enjoying the clean smell on start up.

hey presto no more cold or nasties, even after a curry and several refreshing beverages.

What chems are you using??

Some that give me a blocked nose effect are chemspecs HD upholstery prespray and prochems fabric restorer.

Needless to say I dont use them that often.

Masks are usless as they make your glasses steam up, if you wear glasses that is.

I only use prochems stuff..pre-spray gold, or trafficlean...and fibre and fabric rinse...and of course any of there many spotters.

Ive had permanent sinus problems in the 27 years as a CC. Had surgery etc and still the same. I think its through inhaling the presrpays in fine mist form, especially when doing stairs and upholstery. Enzyme pre sprays in particular play havoc with me, and I feel like Ive got the flu afterwards.

i used to use trafficlean about 10years ago and used to suffer from a permanent sore throat. stopped using it and sore throats went away. i think it may have been the fragrance used in trafficlean.

I used to suffer with this a lot when I did mainly commercial carpet cleaning. I found that continously working in an air conditioned environment was a large part of the problem. Carrying out carpet cleaning as a job is in general a bit more active than doing an office job : As such you will dehydrate. It's important to get as much of the 8 pints (WATER) per day into your system as poss. Ask some one who knows you well ..... Do you breathe through your mouth? This was pointed out to me years ago and ever since I got used to working with my mouth shut my dry throat problem went away!

Always carry a 2 litre bottle of something with me, and yes, breath through mouth...don't give a damn bout what customers think now...gonna wear a mask i think....doctors threatening to shove a camera down me throat...aint having that
