Is cleaning insides a good earner or a pain?
« on: July 05, 2014, 10:11:09 am »
Been asked a few times to do insides. Up until now I have said no. This is for domestic customers. I wfp the outsides but if you clean the insides does it pay or take too long?

Cheers,
Steve

What a load of rubbish! !

They are worth doing just price a lot higher than the outside and get them to move everything off the cills.

Bateman is being ironic.

+1 on insides though, priced accurately they are good work.
We work to earn money.
And in nicer homes you're warm, dry and usually have a brew and a biccie.
Learn to blade in your own house though, you don't wanna be slopping water everywhere.

Yes they can be a pain especially on a hot day, yes we all want to earn money but I
want it to be as handy as possible and outside work is a lot handier than insides.
Cons....
You risk dirtying the customers décor or breaking ornaments even if they are not sitting on the sills.
Being accused of stealing if something gets misplaced in the property.
There will nearly always be something in front of a window like a bed or dresser which will be a pain to move.
Blinds, some of these can be a nightmare I had some in a property a while back where they just wouldn't stay up.
Annoying kids who follow you around touching the glass you have just cleaned.
And worst of all cleaning the glass of a property where the person smokes.
Pros..
If you have an important customer its a good way of keeping them happy, that's the one and only reason
why I clean interiors.

Cheers Sean. That's pretty much what I thought. What about using a karcher. Would that be an easier way

To be honest if your going to clean insides a mop and squeegee are the best tools, the Karcher is a good
tool for conny roofs but its slow on normal windows and does tend to leave fine lines on the glass if
examined carefully.
Its good for drying waste water of the sills, saves on microfibers or scrims.

I send Wor Lass in to do the insides while I do the exterior.

Works for me.

Only do them if the customer is willing to pay three times the
normal outside price.

 ;)

Im not actually, they are a pain in the butt. You'll not likely be able to earn what you do on outsides as you on insides. We do price higher doesn't mean they're not a pain in the butt. For ease of purpose I'd rather just crack on with outsides and not have to bother with the added hassle of poncing about inside someone house.

Smokers? Dont even bother trying to justify that one.

Odd-Bod does the insides usually when we're asked. He was off one day this week, had a big insides to do, I would rather have boiled myself alive in a pan of Tosh's urine than do that. Paid well, but a pain in the butt-tocks.

I have one old dear who I charge treble to do the insides ....... she had or has cancer so she don't have the strength to do it herself anymore ........ nice bonus 3 times a year .

When she 1st asked me to do it I said no and when she asked why I didn't offer insides I told her that customers wouldn't pay it .......... she was offended by this and demanded a price and said as the customer she would be the judge of whether it was too expensive or not ............ that was me told !!  :-\

Wear 'overshoes' £10 for 100.
Looks a bit more professional too imo

Or try washing your feet and changing your socks more regularly.

Lol I was only joking, my feet don't really stink but my beer farts do!
It's the being carefull and not getting dirty water anywhere, hot houses and sometimes having to work around customers belongings that I can't be doing with.
I get them to shift everything from window sills when I have to do them but I really do try to avoid them unless it's like a job I got a few weeks so 60 windows on a mansion £160 I charged in and out
