ive just bought a used slx22 and it has the old clamps on it and i want to give it a spruce up and replace all the clamps with the latest style as i love those on my clx, however no1 isnt a clamp its the threaded screw on type,can i cut this off and fit a clamp or am i best just leaving as it is and buying a screw on gooseneck as im going to get a swivel one anyway?
also does anyone have any advice on giving them a laquer paint job to refresh them, it clamps fine!

i would cut it off buy the clamps from gardiners and fit
to lacquer it just wash down, dry it, and spray on the lacquer, usually from Halfords, leave to dry....job done

You can leave the top screw thread on and use a Type2 Gooseneck - http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/QUICK_LOQ_Resi2.html - however if you want to replace it you can either saw off the end 6cm of the top of the pole section and glue on a No.1 clamp or if you do not want to lose the top 6cm of the pole section you can heat up the top of the pole and the screw thread with an electric blow torch and then twist the fitting out with a pair of pliers as the glue softens and melts.

Cheers for replying guys, yeah been busy with work bob it's flying in now lol and at the end of the day when I filled the van up and got next days work lined up I can't be bothered going on the laptop!!
I was quite happy with my clx22 untill I saw Dave wood working near me and had a go of his extreme, only then did I realise how whippy the clx is although it's still been fantastic first pole and I'll keep it in the collection for sentimental reasons!, he sold me two old slx22 cheap and I'm gonna fix them up with a laquer job new clamps and brushes although one has a cracked bottom section no5 so might just make it into an 18, the money I saved on a new one is great as I wanted a slx22 for most jobs but want a 35-40 pole too so the money I saved from them will go towards a bigger slx from Alex!
Will try the heat gun trick to get that metal bit out,I just want the clamps all the way up.

Yeah, they're great. Saves you twisting your body about so much. They just take a bit of getting used to that' all.

Been using swivels for about 7/8 years now, couldn't work without one! IMO one of, if the best wfp gadget of all time!
