As per title really

Running two vehicles, is it worth the extra costs?

How have you insured both vehicles?  same policy or separate?  Does it cost much more to insure a second vehicle on your policy.

it is for me as i cant take my girlfriend out/away for the weekend in the van really.i used to just have the van and to be honest i hated just having one vehicle esp when its full with pure for your next days work.i love coming home and filling the van up for work then shower,tea and going out in a nice clean car.you cant beat it.i also play drums occasionally so it comes in handy.they fit in my car perfect

insurance isnt too bad.ive just paid £400 for each vehicle (including call assist breakdown on the commercial van insurance).i have 9 years no claims though.2 separate insurance companies.

if you can afford it go for it mate.

You can hire some pretty cars for £300 for a weekend!

i like having a car and its good to finally not have to buy one with a roof rack anymore like i did in my trad days!

my girlfriend lives 20 mins away so its handy to nip round in the car,for going the gym or swimming,AA meetings,meals out or nice drives on a sunday afternoon!also she has a teenage daughter who needs a taxi nearly every day so its nice to offer to drive her instead whether its school or to a friends house.

less wear and tear on the van with all that weight in the back so only do around 2500-3000 miles a year in van.

Yup. I love my car!
Wish I could say like Daz that the car is clean though.
Between the wife and a 3 and 1 year old whenever I get in it there is a whole host of crap-usually empty food wrappings everywhere.
And no diesel in it.
Still love it though.

no mr king but  i am very good friends with the people that run bug jam , I am more of a water cooled girl  five golfs, 2 campers 1 bug ed38 is our show 8-)

I've always ran both, i hate driving round in the van when I'm not working. Ive had numerous cars and my current is a volvoxc90 exec, also in the process of doing my motor bike lessons now so i'm going to get myself a toy and buy a Triumph Daytona 675.

I used to have a multi car policy but i found that in the end it wasn't worth it, I've got 10 years ncb on my car and 5 on the van. This also means that EVERYTHING on the van is now business so i can claim all fuel and all other costs related to it and don't have to work out business miles v personal. i'm the same with my phone and this is definitly the best decision I've made as i can now go out and not have to worry about getting work calls when i don't want them

I thought about just using one vehicle that is suitable for work and pleasure but unfortunately every time an idea comes into my head barriers keep appearing! For example a chunky pick up truck would look the part for both but tax is too much etc!
I currently have a Ford Connect and a 3 series Bmw diesel which is cheaper tax than my van! Problem is it spends more time on my drive than anything!

I got a jaguar xj 1997 for family car and other half has a polo and two vans
The jag is more economical than the van as stupid as it sounds, and cheaper to insure.
I have a long run at weekends to pick my son up and over the year works out slightly cheaper to have the jag , I much prefer to leave the van alone when not working.
