Got home last week to a card left by postman.
Insufficient postage, need to pay 11p + £1 handling fee 

So I go to collect today, curious as to what it was.
A £10 cheque from a customer in a brown envelope, maybe 2 cm larger in height and width than an A5 one ! which now regardless of weight requires extra postage ( had 1st class stamp ) as it is considered oversize or other than a standard envelope.
Conning barstewards since they sold shares !  , £1 handling charge for me taking time out my day to collect myself !
anyways rant over

wonder just how long it will be now before the post office starts charging us a handling fee for any parcels we were unable to be at home to recieve during working hours and have to que to collect from the depot on a saturday morning

I had it happen once shortly after the changes were made a few years ago.  Some customers use up their oversized envelopes by folding them in half and tightly sellotaping them.  This makes them under the size and keeps them within the thickness maximum.

yes I too sometimes get recycled large envelopes folded and cellotaped posted by customers.

I get more post than most households as a number of customers still send cheques.
TIP:  See your postman alright at Christmas and he will probably deliver them without hassling you for money.

Same here!! and am sure we dont get a delivery when they have no one to cover it! only get about 5 days delivery not 6

Its to do with the new sorting machines they don't sort over a certain size so it has to be done
manually.
Manual labour costs more than machine labour.

Must be a large sorting office.
