Ian .... I was waiting for someone to say it does not cost us anything. That is no excuse for a website that does not work correctly, especially when the problems have been pointed out many times over years and nothing happens. This website has it's revenue model and if that model does not support the basic website maintenance then they should change the model, their can be no excuses about website growth ect with regards to maintaining the website.

Regarding membership site - Their a few ways to make a website pay for it self but the two main ones are membership or advertising/sponsoring ect. The difference with the membership sites is they don't have unsightly adverts everywhere. The only reason I and others put up with these adverts is because the site is free to join. If I had to pay membership I would not be happy with all the advertising, so you can't have it both ways. Yes I know the site has grown over the years and a lot of positives have come of this and the site looks a lot better than it used to but the nuts and bolts of the site are seriously flawed and it does matter if the site was a small blog or a massive corporate website, if the site does not work properly and I use it then I'm going to complain.

Costs me money though and if it's performance is putting people off visiting it's not great for me or the others that advertise on the site.

I don't seem to have a problem with the speed of this site. I used to be really slow but improved in the last couple of years. For me anyway.

Hi Guys,

It's an exciting time for us, 2 weeks ago we sat down and have agreed the following changes to keep Clean It Up ahead and improve the performance and experience for all members:

Server Upgrade

Migration of the complete forum onto a new server located in the UK that is newer hardware, faster specification disks and processor etc. This migration will mean the forum is running on the latest technology and will be able to cope better with the volumes of data and activity on the forum. One of the major benefits is that the hard disks in the new servers now are SSD (Solid State) and the performance from these is much better than traditional disks.

Forum Upgrade

A forum upgrade to the latest version. There have been a lot of new versions and updates as well as our in house changes so a full upgrade will ensure the forum and structure works to the best of it's ability for all!

Forum Mobile / Tablet Design

A project to design a layout for a fully responsive (ie that functions fully on mobile phone & tablet devices) forum site. This design would be based upon an existing SMF theme. This design will mean that the forum will work perfectly and seamlessly on mobile, web and tablet devices.

As the forum grows so too must the hardware, software and user experience - these are exciting times and beta testing is just around the corner for us!

Will keep you all updated.

Mitch.
