No punishment for the windie then?
Good.  So long as it's proportionate (a couple of good thumps but no more), that sounds fine to me.
Of course, the problem is that even one thump can kill someone if they have an unknown weakness - then you're on a murder rap.

“I cannot condone that sort of action but frankly it is one of the risks you take when you decide to break into somebody’s vehicle.

I went to pick my daughter up last year from the local swiming pool and whilst having a coffee there with the mrs,3 16-17 year olds were abusing an elderly gent (mid 70s) who was eating with his daughter and grand kids. When the elderly man got up to leave these youths followed him outside. The mrs told me to go out to make sure nothing else happened. As I got outside the horrific abuse continued so I did no more but confront them and asked if theyd like to abuse me rather that a guy out with his family. One got a little too cocky and approached me so I grabbed him straight in the throat,he went backwards over his bike and hit the floor (no punches were thrown). He got up,got on his bike and had it away, his two mates followed me my mrs and daughter almost to my home.About 5 mins later guess who turned up at my door?.....yep the local constabulary, got took in and questioned.Luckily the 3 lads are known to police and I was "let off" with a ticking off
