Did the insides of a house I've been doing for years and years.

Last did about two weeks ago on the outside.

Today I'm looking at long lines of white spots in vertical runs!  On most of the windows.

I rinse like heck etc., and think I know what I'm doing, but this has me concerned if it's happening everyone, on all jobs I do.

Do you realise that you are leaving spots each time?  Water is 000 TDS!

I don`t think its bad workmanship. I think its something on the glass that reappears after the glass is dry. My guess is its an oxide of some sort. That will not show when wet. Try running you hand over the glass and feel if you feel some deposit.nd do the same when wet. My bet is you will feel the spots. All you will need to do is buff the glass with Dr Power and the sponge they provide make sure you get into all the corners and rinse and clean the glass again.Then feel the service again.keep me up to speed on this Mate.

If it's not mineral deposits then it's either bad seals, too much water pressure, squirting water in the vents. Basically technique really.

I get to check a lot of work and very rarely have any issues.

When your rinsing always rinse about 2 inches below the top seal. Minimises a lot of problems.

guys im new to wfp but have to say once the water tds is 000 is almost impossible to go wrong! like original poster i rinse like crazy, i over rinse but hey im happy with no complaints and knowiung im unlikely to have to go back to job

and from my experience generally when you see "marks" or "spots" on the glass its got to do with old windows or old glazing

thats my opinion from 3 months wfp and no complaints

I don't think it's vents, but it could be seals.

I like to rise heavily on the seals, but I guess they can hold dirt for a long time.  This particular job is an 8 weekly.

I'll try rinsing lower (I use pencil jets).

It's not even every pane affected.











And Willis, I know more in my little finger about window cleaning than you ever will in your lifetime.

Geoff are you sure its not paint/silicone drips as sometimes these are very similar to spots associated with window cleaning?

No, it's definitely water spots.  They are distinctive because they are larger at the top of the run then decrease in size to the bottom (a distance of about 8").

I have had a couple that were perfect (I believe) for a few years then suddenly runs on some windows. Even on recleaning. This could be the issue I guess.

The only thing it might be is if the frames are old is the PVC barking down and is powdering. My daughter`s house was like this try rubbing the frames with  wet cloth and see if it leaves white powder on the cloth. it drove me mad with white spots every clean. I took car wax to the frames to stabilize the running white powder PVC.Thank god she sold it.

I have seen that too, but as you say it is spots rather than runs.

There's a whole development near me which I cant go near, all new pvc windows that leave runs
every time.
I must have had over thirty houses in it at one time and not one came up o.k. and it wasn't for
the lack of trying.
To be honest I could have got them to an acceptable level but it would have took me forever faffing about.
Unfortunately a lot of new starts target it to their cost.
There are just some frame types that don't take well to wfp methods.

i got calls like this,  im getting to know the types of frames now, after a few

years on the pole,

mostly, but not always, when the water sheets off frames, like when on hydrophilic

glass,  i don't get problems, specially if new windows,

the problems come when you get water sitting for ages, and absorbing micro

substances from old frames, then dripping on glass, winter is worse,

because it take longer for water to evaporate  ,

when i get to know of these problem windows, i give the frames a quick wipe

with water off, 











this is call that i cleaned for two years, and was still getting spotting,  a £20.00 call,

i don't get this spotting now i quickly wipe frame edges.    john

It's largely perished old jet black seals which leach their colour into the water. Or old aluminium/upvc which powders.

They way to do it properly is:-

Wash every upper window thoroughly. Then ...

Wash every lower window and door thoroughly.

Go back to the upper windows, turn your pencil jets down low/turn your fan jets down low until they are light pressure pencil jets.

Rinse the problem windows so that the water jet runs just below the top seal and there is no splash or flow that touches the upper seal. The rigidity of an SLX allows accuracy - even have the brush on it's side with the lower jet and part of the brush on the glass so that you obtain true accuracy. Once you have done the upper two inches you can rinse quickly the rest of the pane.

The beauty of a tap on your hip in a holster. . .

I actually fancy trying a tap on a holster. Is that your preferred method Granville? I've never tried it, I just use Aquatap. I do like the idea if keeping the pole as light as possible on the top.

Have to agree the tap on a holster is hard to beat it keeps the pole light and
helps stop grit getting on the pole hose.
The way I use it is to put the reel hose through the holster which keeps the tap about 10 inches in
front of me, this keeps the tap away from my leg as they can sometimes leak.
