How much to charge for clean and seal of Travertine
« on: April 01, 2014, 07:20:11 pm »
Hi,

I have just measured up a couple of rooms for a clean and seal on Travertine tiles.
167 sq meters to be exact.
Thought I would throw this one out to the CIU members for some feedback on the pricing  ???

PS. As an aside, I haven't been active on the forum last couple of months but Im sorry to hear Graeme Smith is considering leaving the forum, he reached out to me when I posted a question on another forum with a recommendation that I sign up here for help with my questions...very helpful guy !

I quoted a similiar size area mate recently but lost out to someone who was going to do it for £1800. I have stopped using metre rate and been quoting on time taken and what day rate i want to earn. Still didnt work on this one though lol. I would have thought your job around £2200 you should get it. What sealers are you planning to use?

Cheers Steve.

I was thinking along the lines of  2,700, but thought it a little steep myself, tis always good to get a second opinion  to weigh things up ;)
I have been using Nulife's sealers..real happy with them.
they dry in minutes, so you can get 4 or 5 coats on within 20 mins.
Nothing like them in my opinion.

Based on the fact that the travertine is not too dirty and the rooms are clear I would be looking at around £1800 for that job!  After all it is a maximum of a couple of days work for two guys including sealing.  The cleaning materiels are very low cost and you will probably get away with just over a gallon of impregnating sealer so materiels should be no more than £500 tops that leaves a nice healthy £1300 for two days labour.

4 to 5 coats, are you putting topcoats on travertine ?
£2000 plus vat, using impregnators.

@ Kevin

The tile is in good condition but will have to shift furniture about...
£1800 - £2200 seems to be the consenses, so best go down the middle and call it £2000,
Thanks for the input Kev...Will let you know how it goes.

@ Bill
I will be using impregs..The stuff I use drys very rapid, so you can top it up every 3 or 4 mins , 4 or 5 coats in 15 mins per sq meter. I would apply it this way until the stone can take no more.. 8)

Peter it would be worth speaking to Kevin regarding the Aquamix sealers. You dont want to be messing around with 4 or 5 coats mate (i assume Stainguard SB). The Sealers Choice Gold might be more expensive per litre but you will use less + less time on the job.

@ Steve..

Yes, Staingaurd SB.
I had looked into Auqamix seals. Kev has Distributors here in Ireland.
I rang enquiring about them and got through to a secretary/ receptionist and she didn't know a lot about them and suggested I talk to one a the lads. I rang one of the owners of the company asking about them and he said they were just getting them in and he would ring me back after bank holiday, still waiting for his call.... I now get my sealers from Terry Guilford, he has them delivered the day after I place an order.  My kinda guy !
I might give them a call again sometime to see if they are sorted out yet.
It be good to have another comparison for the client.

If my Distributor in Ireland is not pulling his weight I need to know about it.  We can dispatch direct to Ireland now at much more reasonable rates than previously as we have a new courier.  That said the distributor in Ireland has just fully restocked with Aqua Mix.  If you are having a problem then e mail me and I will sort it and dispatch from here.

On another note I have never used Stainguard SB but having just looked it up it is an Impregnating Sealer.  By definition any good impregnating sealer should only require 1-2 coats except in the case of extremely porous stone where it may need a 3rd Coat.  If it needs more than two coats in normal circumstances then there is something wrong.  Impregnating sealers require 48-72 hours to cure so applying coat after coat within minutes is a pointless exercise and a waste of time and product.

Mike

Welcome Back!!!

The OP was looking for advice on pricing NOT SEALERS  He has already said he is going to use YOUR Stain-Guard SB because he likes it!

Quite fortutitous really!  Don't you think?

Your penultimate post on this Forum said something like

"I am done on this Forum for now!  That was 54 weeks ago" ::)roll

Nice to see you back ??? ???

We can all say things and do the opposite!

Did you not say this Kevin -

"It is with regret that Tiling Logistics have reached a decision and will no longer be offering advice on this Open Forum"  ::)roll

It is getting silly on this side of the forum now, of course their is a little banter on the other forums but it's getting on my milk ducts having to read through all the bile on here!

It's obvious to everyone what's going on - Kevin does not like it when a competitor comes on this forum and promotes a product, ( different technique ) or system when they are not advertising or sponsoring on Clean It Up and I think Kevin has every right to be annoyed about this but sorry you do come across as a playground bully sometimes on here Kevin.

The mods on here need to get a grip and decide if it's ok or not for any suppliers who don't advertise on here to come on and promote their products, no matter how subtly!  :-\

Sorry you read the post like that but It was a genuine post welcoming Mike back after over a year!!!

I agree with this statement of yours as well below but I am unsure of who you are aiming it at?

"The mods on here need to get a grip and decide if it's ok or not for any suppliers who don't advertise on here to come on and promote their products, no matter how subtly!"

because it gets on my milk Ducts as well when people just come on here and advertise their stuff and dont pay while I do!

Finally however it comes across to you I don't give two hoots about who advertises what or when as long as they are paying to do it!!!
In my opinion competition is healthy and as around 75% of our products are Unique to us anyway there is no competition. Just to put things in perspective as I have said many times before we sell more on Amazon per day than we sell collectively on the CIU in 3 Months.

Hey!
Calm down, Calm down, hahaha  8)

I use Mike's seals because they dry to the touch within a couple of minutes...which would allow me to add an extra coat with less down-time if I needed to..making life easy for me . The finish is quality and pleases the client, who at the end of the day are what my services are all about = Tis as simple as that.
Will I use Kevins seals , yes I will, because I would like to have an extra comparison for my clients to decide which one they would prefer, taking into consideration the overall time in application, price and finish.

Hey Peter, Stainguard SB is a good product one which i use myself when i want a solvent based sealer as it is low odour, my post was offering an alternative that would not save you money on product but time on the job and also giving you a premium sealer -  and therefore helping your overall pricing and fingers crossed the job coming your way.
I believe its good to have a choice of products available to you to tackle each job. How did you get on anyway with the quote mate? Any feeback from the customer.

Steve

Yeah, I hear you ..will give it a go for sure.

No news on the job as yet.. expect she maybe looking for alternatives also Steve  8)
But I will hear back before she makes a decision as we look after the window cleaning and power washing regularly, so will have the option to meet competition on price if I choose.
