Just thought I'd post about those on water meters wondering about sub meters.
Got my water bill this week.
It said I was just shy of £900 short on my direct debit payments (£132PCM, domestic included)
Rang them up to give them my sub meter reading.
Completely painless. Emailed the photo if the submeter.
2 days later, got an email back:
Thank you for your reading...
We have credited your account with £895.
So, over the course of the year I was less than a fiver out.
DD kept the same.
Couldn't've been simpler with Anglian Water.
The meter was just £30 from eBay, couple if brass hoselock bits for a tenner.
Well worth it!
And if anyone's considering getting a meter-go for it!

Are you now only paying for household use water and nothing for water going to the RO ?

My sub meter is fitted prior to RO so it measures all water waste and pure so the water board will know how much water does not go down the drain/sewer. So I will get a reduction in my sewer charge. I will still have to pay for the water used though.

I think this is how it should be done.

The only downside is that I pay commercial rate on water even on domestic usage and vat too.

The meter is on all the water that goes into the garage.
None of that water goes down the drain.
Obviously the pure goes into my tank but the waste goes on my grass, front & back.
The only other water is for washing the car, so that doesn't go down the sewer either.
You pay for every cube coming in but not the sewerage on it.

For the last 2 years I've paid £132PCM total.

I pay domestic rate on all the water I use.
They offered commercial rate but didn't force  it.
It worked out more expensive on my usage, so I declined.

But you're doing yourself out of a few quid Cliff.
Your pure obviously doesn't go down the drain but you're still paying as if it is...

how can i claim for the pure aswell,somebody on here told me to put it on the waste outlet only and thats what i did with a reading sent to the water company.
how do they work it out if i put it on the inlet .

You have a good thing going tho that's why. My mate is stuck on commercial rates coz he has his setup the same as you. I think you should probably be on a commercial tariff. Thing is if you ring and ask you can stitch ya self up

i have spoken to them and they cant put you on commercial rates in a domestic dwelling  unless you ask them to.

id like to hear other peoples views but your property is a domestic dwelling unless you have a a business unit etc.

You pay for every mil that comes in. Regardless.
You don't pay sewerage on water that doesn't go down the drain.
If you run a hose onto your grass (not a hard standing cause that just runs to the sewer eventually) with your waste, that's not sewerage.
The water you put on the windows doesn't go down the sewer either so you shouldn't get charged.
They work out what's come in, because it's measured. They work out what's gone down the sewer by guessing (I think 90%) a percentage of what came in.
For most people-that'll be about right.
For pure water users, it's not a 'one size fits all' so we need to tell them.

Don't just go on what someone (including me) says though.
Ring the water company and tell them what you're doing.
I was 100% open with them, told them what I was doing.
Anglian water were very helpful. I have heard that that's not the case for all companies though.
