Tried a few years ago, and got a few jobs from it.   Usually charge you so much per line, so I had " Window cleaning service " on one line, and name and number on 2nd.    If you haggle you can get a better rate, especially if you block book.

Thing with advertising is you have to try various methods, before you find the best return.

i read somewhere that you need to spend something like 20% of your profits on advertising ,in all sorts of ways ,in the early years more so ,to get properly established

There is no way I am spending £200,000 on advertising Bobby.

well maybe i got my figures wrong. i think the gist of it was you should spend every spare penny you have on getting your name out  to make sure as darndest that you dont fail [in the early years more than later]
in several different ways ,not just local rag .   in my local rag theres a firm who has a little post it note stuck by their ad  which always catches my eye

Could you tell us what it costs per week, and how many jobs it yields?  I tried local paper advertising several years ago, the only job I got was the woman in the newspaper office who took my advert ;D
