Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and hoped to tap into the wealth of knowledge and advice on here. Which battery would you recommend to run a wfp system, I'm wanting to know which will hold its charge the longest and I've been advised to buy an agm battery?

As a veteran of many many leisure batteries over many years in the last few months I've taken a punt on a cheapie.
The best battery in my eyes.
The best battery to get? The one with the biggest ah from a scrappy. £10. If you're trickle charging.
Leisure battery-one with the longest warranty. Not had one last more than 18 months.

AGM-no, not at all. They are really designed for stop/start technology.
They are very expensive too. (£500+, not uncommon from a dealer)
Think how many 'regular' batteries you could buy with that!
11 years I've been WFP. And now, I wouldn't buy anything other than a £10 scrap merchant special.

I go for the euro car parts Leisure battery when they are on special.  Three year warranty and no quibble when I take them back.  I've had one go back but mainly due to my idiocy .

They're good Danny but won't take a trickle charge well over time.
I bulged my last but one leisure battery.

Aren't you supposed to use a smart charger with leisure battery's not a standard car battery charger?

The best battery to run the wfp system in your van is your van battery. Thats how i have been working for the last 4 years. Wire it up to your pump controller, job done

Platinum 85 amp leisure is a good all rounder about £70 a pop including vat,
If you can get a split charger to boost it over the day which will give you a bit more work time.
Depending on usage you should get 2 or more years which is good going for any battery running
a wfp system flat out.
Get a smart charger to charge it and don't discharge the battery fully if your not using a controller.

i really don't get why people insist on spending monay on a leisure battery , van battery or secondhand car battery and a split charger.

no mucking around taking battery in to charge.

I really don't get why people have a secondary battery full stop, regardless of whether it is a nice shiny leisure one, or 2nd hand. If your van is diesel, and has a decent sized, good quality battery, and you are a solo operator, like me, you just don't need it.

I did run mine like that for over a year with no problems .

It's handy having a battery in the back if you leave your lights on or something though ! Lol

tried running wfpump from van battery and had to get a jump start on the van a couple times so always use a leisure battery. Last week my battery was running flat early every day even though it was having a good 8 AH charge every evening. The battery was cooked, hot to touch and exhausted, probably had it for between 3-4 years so not bad seeing as a I run a 9 amps pump from it almost continuously when working. Had to buy a new 115 amp leisure battery on Friday and wow can I notice the difference again.

I do alot of miles so its always getting charged up when driving
At the end of the day you get what you pay for. 👍

Ain't it dodgy running van battery straight to pump ? Shouldn't it go through a relay with Fuses into Battery for system !!!! 😳😳😳

I'm not sure i would chance wiring the pump straight to the van battery with no controller, what with the pump running flat out and all!. The kit i got from cleaning spot when i bought the pump controller had a fuse built in to the wiring, so it is all safe there!.
