Cleaning the top of a porch using some small ladders. Got distracted whilst reeling in and the hose upset the ladders causing them to slide down the windows...2 panes and left some lovely aluninium scratch marks that i couldnt remove.

fessed up to owners. doese anybody know what will fetch these scratches off and save me a few hundred getting units replaced?

If you run your fingernail across the scratches at right angles, if the scratch is deep enough to stop your finger moving, you're probably doomed.

Try car polish - gets rid of very shallow scratches just fine.  Worth a try even if the test above fails.

If you end up having to replace them, use a glazing company.  Anyone involved in selling double glazing will be double the price of a glazier.

Take beading off measure glass, get units made and replace 5 min job

Made up for the frames, instead of replacing full

The glass in a door could well be toughened glass which will be a bit more pricey.

Just go bust and open in a family members name

I don`t think the scratches are into the glass so try Dr POWER  and polish is circular movements, it will take a bit of time. You can also get a scratch removal kit on e bay.

ordered some jewlers rouge off ebay. Its worth a go. If I get the worst off o dont think they will complain too much. They have a massive scratch down another window...nowt to do with me. They were very pleased I fessed up in first place

Jewlers rouge worked so 20 quid to save a couple of hundred. Thats an anxiaty over with

How did you apply the rough?
High speed buffer or just on a cloth?

rub in Colgate toothpaste with brown paper into the scratches , then lightly buff off .   i learned this tip on the forum -and it worked !
