SAFE CONTRACTOR
« on: March 08, 2014, 04:01:14 pm »
Does any other one man band or maybe 1+1 have safe contractor ? I'm fed up with these firms all wanting different accreditation schemes - why can't the half wits get together and agree to use the same one ? I can understand people wanting creditable contractors but why can't there be an accredited standard and so long as you achieve this through one lodge or another whats the issue ? Chas is another one I've been asked for let alone the county council who did their own

Other then CAT Carl, no we don't have any. Don't do much work in the commercial sector, so haven't needed to have the "creds" to date.

Simon, the safecontractor  scheme, just applied online but it seems quite a drawn out process . How did you find it and do you have to be in business for x amount of years before you are accepted ? Ed

Chris, I think we all agree with these schemes but unfortunately if you don't have the certificate then you don't get an opportunity to quote for the organizations . Ed

The firm that dropped 50 tonnes of oil in their bund wants it so they will collect the certificate costs - I don't know why they need me to clean it before they need to see the certificate  ???

Same as Matt. I am a sole trader with the occasional subbie.
I am in my first year with Safecontractor. Took around 4-5 weeks to go through everything.
I signed up just so I could work for a management company. Yet to get any work off them though!!

Calm down Christine.

Tell me what's safe about using your xjet up at people's houses with your shiite so called safe chem. If a neighbour got a drift of it in their eyes will it irritate them? I'm sure it will.

I'm not in the safe contractor category...were cowboys. :'(

... but we do have MDS, risk assessments, are registered contractors ,attended appropriate training courses for the HSE approved bio-degradable,eco friendly chemicals we use...poope or not .
Our Insurance also covers use for use of approved chemicals in case anybody goes blind watching us work or if our chemicals damage property we are working on....or if we kill the lawn.
Are you a "safe contractor" Lee? ;D ;D ;D
