Just been offered a Hiace 2006. FSH, 2 owners from new, new MOT and serviced last week. The guy wants £1500 for it with no VAT, only downside is 180K on the clock, but thats all motorway mileage. Any advise please?

in my opinion that's not a lot of money for a van,I don't think you can go wrong,if it's been regularly serviced,that mileage is not high for a Diesel engine.
I know cabbys that have cars with 300k plus on the clock.

180 is not high for a Toyota motor. They build taxies in African and they load the poor van with 16 and more.They still do 300,000 miles.A taxi was impounded with 45 Africans on board doing 70mph.

It is a lot of miles.
Even for a Diesel engine-it's a lot.
But...there's a lad selling a Citroen (I think) with 240k.
The Toyota will fare much better.
Ask yourself how long you're looking to keep it.
£1500 is not a lot.
If the van will get you out and working-go for it!

I'm currently running a Pug Partner 1997 with 171K, so the extra space would be great and the Pug will have to be replaced eventually, just don't want to get burned!

The Toyota will be a lot better.
Could you flog yours?
Even if you weigh it in, £1400 for a van is peanuts for what you could earn out if it.

Just make sure it has been serviced regular and timing belt changed when due. 180k miles on a hiace is nothing to worry about!

He has a peugeot partner at the moment mate. I think it is fair to say the hiace mpg will be a little lower, perhaps not 50% lower though

I have not actually owned a hiace, so not sure about mpg, but, as with every vehicle, it depends how you drive it. I used to get 29mpg average out of my 3.5t swb hi roof iveco, so i would expect the smaller and lighter hiace to average mid 30's, unless you drive like a boy racer

My hiace averages below 30mpg fully loaded, but you make up for that with no breakdowns and parts.
Mine was 1500 quid 3 years ago and in 100,000 miles I've done I've changed a lightbulb for mot . mine looks, drives as it did when I brought it, no rust or any form of deteriation .

Only 45000 on the clock though. I love it. Best van I've ever had.
