what do most of you wfp guys do with your hose and reel, ive seen a few guys just leave back doors open and others use ports underneath but youd still have the reel outside so im thinking about cutting a small hole in the back door or floor with a flap and then i can just pull the reel though and have the van closed and to stop the hose snaggging on the doors maybe fit a hose guide.
anyone got anything set up like this?

I just leave my doors open mate, never had any security issues!

Pole hose from pump to hose reel with a hozelock to microbore fitting from Gardiners you will be able to shut and lock rear van door(s) .

Or if you need to use 1/2" hose get 2 of the above fittings and a brass hose to hose connector . Mike

Doors open, no problem as you can't get past reels and tank.

im not bothered about the van and they can have the radio lol probably worth all of 50p but if im leaving my gardiners poles in the back it only takes a second for some chav to grab it and away.

I know what your saying, and an access hole like this does appeal, more so as we now have picked up work that borders on, how can I say it, less salubrious areas...

However, we rarely disconnect the pole from hose during the, so having to thread the hose through, connect, disconnect every stop will seriously disrupt our routine.

I'd have a lift up cover made, when not in use

Microbore hose or pole hose will eliminate chopping holes in your van .  LOADS OF LADS MISS OUT ON THIS AND LEAVE VAN DOORS OPEN AND GET SOMETHING KNICKED OR RISK THEFT .

Why oh why when their is a small enough gap for narrow hose to fit under van door without risk . Mike

I have cut one hole in the side of the van , for the two man team

then fitted  a ffuel filler cap to which tides everything up and when you done on a night screw the cap on job done ,

 some will say what about the resale when your done but if you work the van hard its worthless after 5 years anyways so I would rather have faster work which is more cash and more jobs aday one job a day extra will far out way what you will lose in money and why keep lifting hose reels off and on sounds like hard work for no extra cash to me

Yeah I'm not bothered about the value if the van lol I paid peanuts for it anyway and probably increased the value already by replacing the cambelt service and just giving it a clean lol!

Mike the issue with closing the van door on hose is you either have to stand by van and unreel, and what if your just that 4 ft short and then have to return to van, or you walk all the way to the furthest point only to return to van to close door all valuable time wasted.

Spruce, love this setup but what worries me is what if the hose get caught or unreels while travelling along ?
Otherwise excellent, and a possible way to stay connected as pole would defo fit between door rubber

Maybe u could use some sort of quick clamp to put on hose in van so it doesn't go through the floor while driving?

That was the problem Tim had with his first hose reel in his Berlingo van. He lost half the fitting as it dragged on the road. He learnt to stop the rose reel from unwinding before setting off. A bungee cord would work nicely.

He has a new hose reel on his latest van that automatically locks the hose reel so doesn't have the problem.

I want to do something like this but I keep finding properties we do that this wouldn't work. My hose reel is on wheels. I sometimes find it easier to drag the complete hose reel out to the back of the property I'm working on, secure the end of the hose and then walk the hose reel back to the van and then couple up. I do this if there are numerous corners to negotiate. I couldn't do this with a fixed hose reel unless I had another one for those few occassions.

I also didn't like the idea of loosing the spare wheel or finding a place inside the van for it.

Not on the 3.5 ton anyway I just couldn't trust it on a little jack, other vans have spare in engine bay 😃

I get what you mean but i have managed to work out the best spots to park to ensure i dont have to move the truck.

And  as you said before about working certain areas close to less salubrious areas which is why i prefer to totally secure

we never unclip the pole until were finshed the days work (or need the 47 on )

with come out the side of the van it a case of put pole on roof rack a wrap the hose run the rack once and winde the hose tight , never comes lose and when you get to the next job its lift of rack, glad hose and walk simple and quick
