Water pressure booster pump..
« on: February 09, 2014, 12:29:13 pm »
Its a long story involving the wife wanting the kitchen to move into the garage where my IBC lives..

Anyway..

I shall be building my RO into a service cupboard within the house.. using Mr Gardiners automated control unit to run a booster pump and auto cutoff when the tank fills. A connection box on the outside will take care of the water feed to the onboard tank and the electrical connections for the tank float switch..

What I need to do is find a 240v water booster pump which will up the water pressure feed to the RO. Currently the mains pressure is around 3 Bar..

I need to find a fairly quiet running pump which will get me close to the optimum working pressure of around 5 to 5.5 Bar.

I already understand that hooking a booster pump into the mains is a No No so I will be building in a 100L break tank into the house..

Any suggestions on pumps folks..

I couldn't recommend a quiet pump because the Clarke booster pump I use is fairly loud but lives out in the garage.
Anglian Pumping Services sell this one which is advertised as almost silent? at 67 db:

http://www.anglianpumping.com/products/dab-booster-silent-pumps-230v

But it doesn't mention specs for flow rate or pressure delivery.
Another alternative might be to sound proof the service cupboard that you will house the booster pump in.

Looking at what spec there is Im assuming that this has to be one of the 3Bar pumps that are sold for most domestics.
Your right the best bet is Probably to Insulate the service cupboard.

What Clarke pump do you use? I had a look at Machine mart earlier and the range is equally confusing..

What I may do is mount the lot in the Van and simply feed a cold supply , a 240v supply and a return pipe out to the van . and refill at the end of the day..

APS are excellent for supplying the correct booster pump, ring them and they will recommend exactly what you need regarding pressure and noise

This is the pump I use Jim but as I say it's NOT quiet:  http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cbm240e-1in-multi-stage-230v-booster-pum

This is the same pump I use it has an auto shut off so you do not need an automated shut off just fit a small ball valve in your tank this will shut off your pump when the ball valve shuts off the water supply, works for me

Does it have to be a 240v pump Jim?

I've been using this one for 6 months or so and it's fine. Boosts pressure up to 90 psi and is very quiet
