I have just fitted the new gardiner clamps onto my carbon pole and also put some tape on the bottom as shown in the youtube video. I put 2 sections together and cannot release them, it is like its glued solid.
I removed the tape on the other sections and they went together ok so its obviously the tape thats got it stuck.
I am lost for what to do other than buy 2 new sections. The unfair thing is, I did nothing wrong, just followed instructions. Anyway has anyone got any ideas??? Please

The tape you put on has probably rolled back the opposite way and suck the poles together.
Try heating the poles using a hair dryer in the position where you put the tape and pull them apart
Good luck. It will probably be slow going and hopefully you won't get any tape stuck inside the Pole

Did you glue new clamp bodies on the pole? If so you may have reassembled the pole before the glue has cured and stuck them together. Did you trim all the excess glue from inside the clamp?

If it was the tape I would have thought you could still twist the section but struggle to get it past the clamp body.

The glue was dry as I left it overnight and I did take the excess of with a knife. The tape hasnt turned it is simply just a very tight fit.

If that doesn't work make sure there isn't a layer of glue between the clamps where one rests on another. Normally the end cap stops the tubes going that far into each other.

I've had this happen to me with the stop tape and it seems unmovable.  One idea, if you have a pole section from another pole in the same diameter you can push that pole section up the bottom of the pole that it's stuck in.  You need to be careful not to exert too much sideways force on the pole, however because the pole meets butt to butt so to speak and they are the same diameter, you can exert a lot of force without causing damage and therefor move the pole enough to free the stop tape.  It worked for me but you do need another pole.

If you allowed the glue to fully dry before assembly then it should not be glued together sections. It may be that too much insulating tape was applied with has furled over inside and stuck the section together.

To separate the sections if this is the case then follow the advice already posted to heat the section up with a hair dryer where the tape should be, this will soften the tape glue and should release the sections. You will have to get the sections very warm for this to work. On the odd occasion that this has happened to a client in the past I have done this procedure with an electric blow torch, but you have to be very careful not to overheat the carbon using a blow torch.

I have tried the hair dryer and poured hot water over it, but no luck.
Will try the hot water again tomorrow when I have a bit of strength back

You may need someone to give you a hand mate rather than struggling on your own to pull apart 2 sections . Mike

You need someone else with you twisting  the pole the other way.I don't use tape on the end of my sections.just the stop tape.easier to remove sections then when cleaning poles out.

I'm probably stating the obvious but for extra grip wear rubber faced gloves when trying to twist apart; and have two of you do it.

ok, I have tried everything and no luck. I have put the pole end in a large vase full of boiling water and will leave for a while then try again. If that dosnt work then it i will have to saw off the bottom of both sections which would mean two short sections, not ideal but what can i do??

Ok, done it. I had to saw of a good part of the pole which of course was 2 sections then put it back into boiling hot water and I mean boiling hot. Then I bashed the longer end of section 5 on the floor and it slowly released the other end. I would not advise doing this as it could have split the carbon but at this point I was ready to chuck it I am so sick of it.
This is a warning for all those replacing the gardiner carbon clamps.
Replace the clamps but what ever you do, do not, absolutley do not put tape on the end of the pole. If you have done it and it worked then great but you may have the same problem as me and then your in trouble.
My pole will never be the same again. If I struggle to use it as I have cut quite a bit off then I will need to replace section 5 and 6 and that is not cheap. Its a shame as I've tried to improve the pole and instead I have buggered it up.
My advise would be to use tipex or paint  to mark the section of pole. Wish I did

I had the same problem today when two sections of my SLX jammed solid due to tape coming off. I came across this topic when trying to find out what I could do to fix the problem. I boiled up a kettle for heating the pole section up when I had the bright idea of pouring the water down the inside of the two jammed sections. It worked. A minute later both sections were apart and the tape causing the jam had been removed.

Thought I'd share in case anyone else has a similar problem. It's one more thing to try before sawing bits of pole off!

Replacing old clamps for new on old worn poles: I wouldn't recommend use one complete turn of tape on the pole as a stopper. Either stretch the tape thinner and cover 3/4 of the pole circumference or use tippex or a paint for car scratches as a marker. The hot water down the inside of the pole works btw.
