Alternative to gocardless?
« on: December 22, 2013, 08:09:14 pm »
Does anyone use an alternative direct debit provider to Gocardless that allows you to add your customers details yourself?
I don't think some of my customers like the sound of giving out their bank account details to some company they've never heard of by email.
But i'm sure they would give them to me without worrying if I said I was going to set the direct debit up myself.
I Don't know why Gocardless don't allow you to enter customers yourself  ???

As far as I know you can set it up yourself.

Can you not just enter your customers account details yourself?

I can't see an option that allows you to do that.
If you click on set up new customer it just gives you the spaces to add name and email address.

Why can't you just speak to your customer either over the phone or in person and ask what their details are?

Just like when we phone up to pay for insurance or something else etc, the person on the phone asks all your details and sets up the direct debit for you.

hi you can set up the customer yourself, but you have to open as if you are the customer, enter their details (addy account number, THEIR email addy and set a password (they can then change this if they want too) then its all done. You are not supposed to set up on behalf, for security reasons (password) but I have a few customers that have asked me to do it for them, but they do really need an email addy as they are emailled each time you take a payment etc.....

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

Every time a customer gives you a cheque their account details such as account number and sort code are on it so they are in effect giving you their details .

from my experience you have to get the customers email address, send it to go cardless, they email the customer, who opens a link in the email, they provide the bank details to go cardless and then its set up

But i find when explaining this to the customer it really confuses them or makes it seem more suspicious

Their is a company called "fastpay" and for a one off fee of £175.00 they will provide you with certain templates one of them being a Direct Debit mandate so you can fill it in at the customers door and give them a copy and for the customer its done!!

Just get one of the buttons put on your website.

It's the route I'm going to go down.

Then you can tell them to just go to your web page and follow the instructions.

Hi jonny
I think the problem is still getting the customer to activate all this, whether its logging on to your site, opening a email etc i find its a slow grind, so for me its probably going to be fast pay and a paper debit there and then on the door

Hi mate,

I haven't gone ahead with this yet, but from what I saw it was just one page for them to fill in? Unless I'm wrong.

It was ;

Bank name
Sort code
Account number
Email

Mayb something else too but it all looked straight forward. They give you a sample page that your customer has to fill in.

I've not actually done it yet though so might find some snagging on the way.

we have it on ours - Nate did it for us, really easy for customer to do, BUT if they are still unsure you can click on it "as the customer" as long as you have their name, addy, account number, sort code and email address thats all you need.

What are gocardless like to deal with? I have contacted them and they were supposed to call be back but never have. Does not bode well in my opinion.

everytime I have had to email - they respond within 24 hours often much faster - maybe try them again? We have found them to be excellent

GoCardless has worked really well for us.

I have added customers myself...

You just need their name, address, email address and bank account details.

Most customers just signup via our website though >> www.iconicwindowcleaning.co.uk/directdebit

how do you add customers your self?

when i log in all i can input is name, address, email, reference...i then have a choice to add to payment plan or request authorisation but from what i can see no request is made for bank details......so the customer must still have to open an email and click on the link provided, if this is correct how are you adding customers bank details?

I simply click on the "setup a direct debit" button on my website and fill in the customers details - including their bank details that they give me.
