hi ben unless you do lots of miles they do not work i have one in my van i dont do many miles so i have an optimate charger which is amazing not cheap but good you need one that will charge a 110 amp battery

I do short trips all day and have a 110a leisure battery with two pumps and mine is fine never have to take out the van and charge . I do check with a voltage metre and all ok. Mine was only £12

I do short trips and mine never drops below 12.5 volts. 

My mate wired it though, so cant help ya .. Sorry

Smart relay is easy , it just gets wired in between the two batteries, so you have a positive wire from van battery to relay the positive from relay to second battery , same with negative wire , or you can attach negative to the body of the van to earth it .

Robert has just said how yours is done as I have the same one. It says on the relay what wire goes where
