Tennis Elbow, Golfers Elbow, carpel Tunnel?
« on: December 12, 2013, 05:45:15 pm »
I get this now and again and resort to strapping a support on my forearm with a pressure pad on the tendons whilst working. last night I plugged myself into a tens machine for an hour and went to bed in agony.
Woke up this morning pain free  :D

Which was lucky 'cos I had four hours scrubbing a double conservatory roof.

Anyone else found anything that works?

(also applied votorol gel)

Try squeezing your forearm at its widest point below the elbow with your other hand. Then open and close your hand so that you feel the muscles moving in your forearm. Do this whole sat watching telly. It worked for me and got rid of tennis elbow like symptoms completely. I had tried the bandage but it applies the pressure equally in a circle. This way you create more of a squeeze on the muscles that are affected.

When I had tennis elbow the only way i got rid of it was a bit more work than this.

I was show an exercise that has got rid of it for about 18 months now.

On hands and knees with the fingers of each hand pointed towards each other. Then try to move just the elbows, forwards and backwards with your body weight towards your arms.
5 minutes of this whenever i felt pain.
After half a dozen times of doing this, it went and hasn't yet returned.

I will try the sitting down and squeezing method when it happens again.

I had similar pains in my wrist, which is worrying to say I use an slx and I'm pretty young. Took it easy and stapled wrist up while I had it. Makes you think more long term tho and be careful that there's as little ware and tear on you body as possible. I find gate hopping a no no now. I'd love an extreme for this reason aswel

After 18 months as a WC i'd started to get a lot of pain with my right wrist prior to this but just used to put one of those 'warm heat 'em up in a microwave sausage things' on it. The pain got worse over time and to be honest I was worried I was going to have to stop. I'm going to describe where on my wrist the pain was.

Sit down at a desk or table and place your right hand palm down. Relax the muscles and then slide/waggle your thumb whilst keeping it on the desk. You'll see two tendons move, a large one above a more difficult to see smaller one. It was these two that were giving me the pain.

The doc told me I needed to rest it for at least a year or better still 2! I said I was going to try and get a brace for it - she kinda laughed at me and said fair enough.

I bought a couple of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00021XRP2/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and I swear the pain went literally overnight. It was like a miracle. I've had no pain since though I've gone through 6 braces as they get manky and wear out!

I can only put it down to the action I use when wfp-ing. I try now to cup the bottom of the pole in my right hand (I'm right handed). The braces have an aluminium strip running the length of the palm and - importantly - on the top of the hand (it's called a "dorsal stay"). These prevent you from moving your hand in a way that causes the problem.

Time to get used to working with the brace on - around 20 mins  :) Time taken to write out a 'Your windows Have Been Cleaned' slip - around twice as long as before lol!

If you've got the same or similar problem then I recommend you give these braces a try.

I have suffered tennis elbow in the past, tried compression strap, cortisone injection worked for a while.
In the end doctor prescribed me a capsicum chilli based cream, it numbs the nerve endings of the affected area, combined with rest the pain subsided within a couple of weeks, tennis elbow never came back.  ;)
