Guys below is the Main bits for my 1st DIY system- Just would appreciate input on spec and price cheers

250 L baffled tank - 129 euro

2400 GPD complete r/o with 40 memberane- 879 euro

Pure freedom hose and reel- 140 euro

100 psi pump + str + flowmaster contoller on backplate - 253 euro

main question really is lads do i need this high spec on r/o and pump and are they good value

i know ive to add piles and brushes which i intend to buy direct off gardiners

That r/o system seems a bit excessive to me, the one I bought is a 400gpd unit with 2 built in pumps, it cost £255. Been using it now for 9 months and seems to suit my needs. I have a 500l tank by the way.

In my opinion 250ltr tank aint big enough, even if you say that you will trad x amount of work, you will get a bigger tank in the future.
But if you insist on using only a 250 tank, a 2400 ro is overkill imo

ok lads , reason for tank is im not changing van for at least a year

my thinking with the ro is i want to fill tank as quickly as possible? van is parked outside house and i dont want hose left there all night as public have access to driveway. But even considering this would a smaller spec r/o still fill tank in 2/3 hours? water pressure is good

I see your point re filling times. My r/o gives me about a litre per minute, with water about 180ppm, but I have a private driveway, so time isn't a problem. Would you be able to set up a static system, then use a transfer pump to fill van tank?, you could set it up in a garden shed.

Static system will not suit me at this particular time simon but certainly may be something for me in the future

That is what I used to do before I had a driveway, not with the water here mind you, I filled up at my parents house, their water is about 56ppm. A 25l bag of resin used like this would last me 2.5-3 months, and that is with a 500l tank.

If your going to upgrade your system I'd seriously look at a second hand tank or possibly using a backpack on a trolley for the time being.
If you get a backpack you've always got it for those awkward jobs the hose won't reach once you get a bigger system.

its a hard water area but im picking up tds meter in morning and will check it exactly

One point I would also make is that you will have to consider your water pressure and if you can or can not use a booster pump.
If you cannot access an electric hook up to power a 240 volt booster pump you will probably be better using a HF5 ultra low pressure membrane rather than a HF4 if you buy a 4040 RO system.
