Controller ?

I use a shurflo pump but no controller. I tend to use a high flow and control this simply with a gardiners tap control on the pole hose

Will it damage the pump in the long run as I have changed the pressure switch twice in the last month /

have not had a controller in six years and pump is fine, by the way something is wrong if you have changed pressure switch twice in a month

Fried mine three years ago. Haven't bothered since. I have a tap on my belt.

No, I've  used a second hand Shurflo since I went wfp and its never let me down, I can do a full day on 350 litres as well.

i always thought if you turned the flow down with just a tap
you get the cycling effect with the pump and thats what knackers
the pressure switch.

cant you have some kind of loop system like i use on my backpacks
so not all of the water goes to the brush but goes back to the tank
if at times you want less flow

With an adjustable pressure relief valve. The problem is that the pump runs all the time consuming power.

The other solution is the fit a heavy duty 30amp 12v relay and use the pumps pressure switch to activate the relay. 12vdc current is very aggressive on switch contacts. The relay then switches the pump motor on and off.

I'll stick with my controller. First digital Varistream still going strong. Son has an older Varistream analogue controller - also still going strong.

What happens when you turn the flow down is that the pump stops and starts because it doesn't need to be on constant.
On my old second hand Shurflo its never been a problem.
But I suppose if it was I could stretch a to a couple of quid for a new pressure switch.

In my opinion, putting a tap inline and slowing the water down that way is putting strain on the pump, the pump is still chucking the water out but your slowing it down.

Loop back to tank is the solution if you dont want a controller, i used it like that for a long time no problems.

I use a very cheap variable resistor from Maplins which I keep reading on here from some won't do the job.

2 years on, it's still working fine.

If it does pack up, I've a spare in the van. Cost me all of less than a tenner.
