at the moment i have a 350L TANK and im finding it just about lasts me a day.6 hours "on the glass" time.i have 2 barrels to take me up to 400L but with my heater and 13kg gas bottle there is no room for them

im getting a new van around march.im looking at dispatch/scudo/expert type vans.i was thinking of a 500L TANK but im sure with all my other gear ill be overweight.

so im thinking of getting a 400L TANK and frame then i have the option to take another 50L with me on longer days if and when i need them.

the connect 230 LWB has a 900kg payload so carrying 450L would be ok i reckon even with gas bottle,heater and trad stuff.not sure whether i would have room though!

anyone know the payloads of dispatch,expert,scudos or do they vary?

i reckon i need a van with a 900kg payload just to be on the safe side but i dont want a big transit or vivaro size van but i may well have to.

ive noticed there have been  a few police checkpoints near me.checking vehicles out.im sure im overweight first thing in the morning?

i like the size of the dispatch/scudo/experts.not too big,not too small but its whether ill be overweight with 450L/other gear.

what are your thoughts guys?

im sure lots of us are just over estimating what weight we can carry and driving about overloaded in the morning.

Daz the new dispatch has a 1200 kg payload on some models you can pick them up for 4500 I would get a 650 tank

Transit connect with 900kg payload should be fine. They often come with solid steel bulkheads so I have my 400l upright tank straped down just behind the bulkhead, even in an accident it ain't going anywhere (in my opinion). That will save you weight in a frame and if you work local to home why not have two smaller propane cylinders? One in the van one elsewhere to change as and when you need to.

I would fit the biggest tank that'll physically fit in Daz. (Within reason)
Stick all your gear in dry then go to the weigh bridge.
Whatever weight you've got left in KG is the amount of water in litres you can add.
What woods says too.
You'll struggle to get over with 1200kg in that size van.
Have you looked at the VW caddy maxi too? They're nice.

Personally I'd go with a vivaro size and just put a 650 tank in there Daz. It's what we've got as you know, and keeps the 2 of us working all day most days. 1 man would really go need to go some to get through 650 litres.

Most of your work is close by so the extra cost per mile of a bigger van isn't really an issue. You also have a seperate car so you won't need to use the van for personal use.

£5k will get you a very good 2nd hand Vivaro/Traffic which should last you 5 years or more. (You'll be retired to your Spanish villa in 3 years anyway )

Why have the worry about being overweight, or your tank not being big enough to keep you earning all day?

I can put you in touch with a mate who has a local van sales business if you like, even just to look. He has 50-100 vans in stock at any one time so you can have a good mooch about.

I currently have a high top transit connect, and it is almost exactly the same size as the scudo/dispatch, as I realised this when i parked next to one. I carry a 400litre tank, with hose, brushes, gutter cleaning equipment, bits and bobs etc... and it is pretty much rammed. So i will be getting a vivaro next time. I think you would regret getting anything smaller than a vivaro tbh.

we have the 230 connect also , we have a 400 litre tank inside frame towards front of the bulkhead and we carry lots of trad gear etc also, you will definitely be able to fit it all in without going to a bigger van, may just need modifying in the back, one thing we did do was to unbolt the hose reel from the floor extend the hose so that we can pull it straight out the back and point it in the direction we work, hose reels secured in the back of vans take up a lot of space

I got caught on the WEIGHBRIDGE only 2 weeks ago ,
I had a ford transit van 260 with a payload of I thought 1400.
I was wrong

Gross vehicle weight is what the LAW IS ABOUT
GVW was 2450
Axle front 1400
Back axle 1400

I was bag on with axle weights, but weighed 2650 all together
200kg over weight
I played dumb , thought I could carry 1400kg , and explained my 650 water tNk and added bits up
They were very good and GAVE ME A CHANCE , had to dump 200 litres there and them and got off without a £150 spot fine

650 pure freedom system that had about 550 litres in it , so even my transit with me , poles ,fuel , ladder rack ,ladders , reels etc , can only carry a 400 litre rank .

Bought a transit T300 , 3000 kg now so can JUST carry a 650 with ease . Well probably be 2900kg when I'm totally laden .

It's amazing all the window cleaners in BERLINGOS driving around with 500 litre tanks.
You have a crash , your fault or not , your be fined £thousands or JAILED if a fatal .

I would only buy. A 3000kg van capacity .
Ford transit 57 plate T300 Mwb medium roof is great , a little bit big but great for he as I will be putting bikes in it and a retractable seat in the back of the van for a family static caravan site we go to

I also use a trolley though, so that takes up quite a bit more room. Also do pressure washing so need extra space for that.

im pretty sure a 650L full tank with frame in a vivaro swb would be overweight with reel,poles,trad gear,ladders,heater and gas bottle,battery,pumps and me(im 16 stone and a bit!)

has the swb vivaro not got a payload of just under 1000kg?i reckon id be overweight with all the above.

i dont need a 650L tank anyway for one man.

i think a 500L tank tops in a swb vivaro.

so im thinking vivaro swb with 500L tank and frame,all my other gear but a bigger gas bottle(19kg).

lots of dispatches/scudos/experts have a 815kg payload which would mean id be overloaded with a 500L TANK and other stuff.
