Thinking of getting one for my lad. It will a one man 350 litre system...

Plenty of them about around the £1000 mark, what are the pros and cons please guys?

Or can you recommend an alternative?

The 1.9 diesel engines are very slow.......but the engine will do 150,000 miles and more.
The 1.6 hdi turbo diesel engines give much better performance but I believe some of the older hdi models can suffer from electrical problems. Regular oil changes are recommended particularly for the hdi engines.
So look for service history that shows regular periodic servicing has been carried out.
I personally think they are good vans. I previously had a 2005 1.9d Berlingo and have now got a 2013 1.6 hdi Partner.
The new one is great.

Thanks for the replies so far, gj newton, how do you find the Kangoo?  I was looking at one of them on evilbay but thought they looked a bit too small?

I preferred the kangoo to the belingos
Hardly anything between the 2 in size
Handy little van I had it when I lived in spain side loading door front passenger seat folded flat great for longer poles
Think it was around a 1.5
The version I had alo had a single rear seat as well behind the driver
Very handy
Tarted it up a bit set of  black alloys etc it was like a rac orange in colour
Loved it
Then a bloody  lorry driver  tried to get  up a road where it was parked and didnt quite make it opened up one side like a can of beans
Cost me very little in the 3 years I had it used daily


I brought a old seat inca I think it was called similar to the vw caddy old shape to get me out of the poop it belonged to a spanish builder  it had done 200000 kms 100 euros I paid for it  drove it around for a year cost me nothing I gave it to a mate when I came back to the uk
We went back for a holiday this year and me mates still using it
 its up to 240 kms and not cost him a penny and runs without fault


The weather  helped preserve the bodywork thou

if its been loaded too much in its life itll sit level or lower than the front ,  the back suspension is expensive to fix if its worn out

Assuming you are looking at the previous generation berlingo/partner, try to get the 800kg version which will cope with the weight better.

I snapped a back axle by overloading 500 quid fitted with a second hand unit

I've had a 800 kg Berlingo for years does a great job of moving a 400 litre tank around. Seems to be totally rust proof too.
