Who does domestics on a regular basis, as part of their business?

I have a friend who is considering starting up, initially at a weekend to build a round. I regularly work Saturdays if needs be and i'm happy to do it and custies don't mind, but I was interested in who does a Sunday and what custie reaction is.

Any feedback appreciated.

Carl, I started up with a good friend about 15 months ago and we have worked weekends since to build the business up. Its a bit complicated as we both have other jobs but by spring we should be able to go full time then reduce the weekend days down or stop altogether. Some say you should never work weekends but our regular jobs dictated otherwise. To answer your question though we have never had any negative reaction to working Saturday or Sunday. I have said many times that I really believe it has worked in our favour as we have built a real good relationship with our customers as they are generally at home when we turn up. It has worked for us and do not see why it won't work for your mate.
Wish him all the very best from me. It is hard graft getting up and running but well worth it in the end

If you have the dedication and the customer has no objection then go for it,

When needed I used to do all my cleans at the weekend sat and sun was never a problem and used to bring in more biz as neighbours used to see you out and about

I gutter clean on Sundays using a gutter vac plugged into the customers mains electric.
Saves on having to buy and run a generator.
Maybe have one or two homes to clean and end up doing most of the street.

I've never had to work on a Sunday don't think I ever will though I do work two Saturdays in a month!

It's a hard one I agree. I think my custies would be less than understanding if I pitched up on a Sunday. You see builders working Sundays all the time - that said the homeowner is generally happy as it means the job will be done quicker.

I was in his position, starting from scratch - whilst maintaining my current job - i'd be forced to give it a go I think.

Interesting that most who've answered the question say they have/would.

I've never had to work on a Sunday don't think I ever will though I do work two Saturdays in a month!

We actually take days off in the week and work Saturdays on domestics sometimes because we pick up walk ups then. Start about 10:30am and finish about 2pm. If we find custies having BBQ's (summer), then we leave them out.Didn't always think like that though.

I work Sundays now and then,try it and see for yourself,customers really dont care.Nowt speshul happens Sundays anyway,bit of water sprayed on windows aint gonnae disturb someone watching telly.

If you want to make extra pocket money to treat yourself just do it,if customer moans tell them there a wierdo this is 2013,get used to it then walk.

We only work a Sunday now for special one off work, Saturdays are part of the working week for staff. And is either one off or catch up work.

If you want to build up your biz while still doing paye then Sundays are a must and shows your dedicated to making a go of it, it's to easy to do paye during the week and a few cleans on sat giving Sundays a miss then 2 years down the line you have failed to move forward in terms of growing the biz and just stuck working for others with a bit of top up on Saturdays

i have worked a few sundays in the past but that was years ago when 100 % trad.i never had a problem.your more chance of getting paid and pick up new customers as well.

Domestics on a Sunday? Not for me.

We worked 7am - 1pm today but insides on a hospital, domestics not a chance!

My ex mother in law had a window cleaner.who did hers and many in the street on a Sunday, due to the fact he had another job in the week. Nobody had an issue with it. I guess if they are set up from the start to expect it then it isn't a problem.

We do office cleaning for Pickford which is great got keys so no one there, just took on 2 more jobs where we clean the windows only around the corner so got keys for them 2 offices as well. Can't fit them in, in the week so we do all 3 on a Sunday only out a few hours. Would only sit about bored on a Sunday !!! 👳👳👳

I do 2 sundays per month , customers don't mind they all get a text the day before and not once as anyone said anything about working sunday .

I build my round up last year doing weekends.  I had to work 7 days a weeks, PAYE job in the week and my own business on the weekends.

its hard work,  I found you can keep working for about 2 weeks straight before you need a day off, otherwise you burn out.

the trick with the switch over, (if you don't have a choose, money wise) is once you have about 200 customers is to negotiate with your boss to take one day a week off (preferably Friday's)

then continue to build till you can go full-time.
